tdbates78
One of my twins, who has sensory issues, hates the feel of paper which makes writing difficult. Right now she has a tissue under her wrist so she can write without feeling the actual paper. Can anyone give me some suggestions on things I could buy or use to place under her wrists? I'm not sure a mouse pad would be any better as the texture is usually kind of scratchy.
Mommyof1
Only thing that comes to mind is the gloves with the finger tips cut out. If you can find the long ones.
geodob
With any type of 'hyper-sensitivity', it is important not to cultivate it. Where the focus needs to be with a gradual process of 'desensitisation'. With the 'sense of touch', the main method used is 'brushing'? Which uses a graduated series of textures. So that you find her 'comfort level', and brush he hand with something slightly rougher. Until this becomes comfortable. Then moving onto something a bit rougher/ courser. Until a more 'normal' level of sensitivity is established.
Wheres Toto
Only thing that comes to mind is the gloves with the finger tips cut out. If you can find the long ones. My son with SPD loves fingerless gloves. They should be pretty easy to find at this time of year (depending on where you're located) and they are pretty cheap. PeterPan
Has she been checked for retained reflexes. One of them, when it integrated, reversed some funky sensitivities like that on my dd.
domestic_engineer
We've had this happen in our house; here are some ideas from the hive ... http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/629006-handwriting-question-my-son-doesnt-like-the-feel-of-paper/ http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/621954-paper-sensory-issues/
OneStepAtATime
The brushing method Goedob suggested might work well over time. Also, if you want to go with the fingerless gloves instead of the desensitizing route, that's also a good option and might work well. You might try for both. Keep working to desensitize for the long haul so this doesn't become an even bigger issue but in the immediate moment for some writing let her try the fingerless gloves and if they work well then she can use those for certain assignments requiring more writing.
