Husband is a Professional Painter.

Sherwin Williams Duration Home is his all time favorite.  Hands Down.

I can get 35% off there today and tomorrow :-)

I need to pick the colors which is so incredibly hard for me.  I have no color sense at all.

Dh helps people with this all the time.  He looks around their rooms to see what types of things they love.  Then he helps them find colors that complement.  Your SW store may have a consultant that can give you some guidance too!

I went and got more samples today. Then I made an emergency phone call to a friend and she came over and rescued me and we quickly narrowed it down to one main neutral color and then a slate blue for the bathroom and a darker blue gray for my son's room. With her help in 20 minutes we figured it out.

Her late husband was a builder so she has done a lot of this.

I was impressed with the Valspar paint with the primer in it when I got it 6 months ago. I know it isn't a paint store paint but it had amazing coverage! We painted our whole kitchen and had about half a gallon left!

The paint that we got on clearance at Home Depot wasn't bad either. It was a miss tint. I believe it is olympic paint with the primer in it. We painted a 100 sq foot room and part of a dresser and barely used half a gallon of it.

We like Behr paint from Home Depot.  It was all we used in our new build and our old house when we were prepping it for sale.  It goes on very well.

I agree, it does go on very well.  Just painted most of our house with it!

Nobody answered the "type" part yet.

Not flat.  Sooner or later, with kids, you'll need to use a magic eraser type sponge on it (like for the beautiful cat my daughter drew with sharpie).  The paint comes off.

If you don't like the shiny appearance of gloss (I don't), compromise with semi-gloss.
