Type of planner for college

DD prefers the type with the time increments down the page.  This is also what is recommended in the Intro to University Life Skills class at the university where I teach in that it helps students "realize" that they have a block of time between the 9:00am class and 12:00noon class that they could be working on a paper, or that they haven't left any time in their plans to eat lunch, or that they need to schedule their workout in the gym for a particular time or it doesn't happen.  This is especially useful because their routine from one day to the next may be very different.

Both. I use a planner that has a vertical weekly with time increments - it helps me visualize my week. Then I have a separate area for daily pages. I have been using a page a day type planner, now I'm moving toward a more bullet journal approach to my days. Ds uses the calendar on his phone.

My kids have both preferred the second type. The times down the page are less flexible. They want to record assignments and due dates, not so much where they need to be when, which is of course a habit after the first week anyway. They put in appointments, but don't have classes written in their planners.

My DD has the first kind but often draws the second one on a piece of notebook paper.

My kiddo (girl) has been using a Day Designer planner for college.  There are time increments on half the page for 6am to 9pm and a to-do list on the other half.

While my daughter took a planner to college, she ended up using the one sold by the college bookstore.  That one contained all of the dates that were pertinent to her college.

 

She also used Post-It notes to make her own wall of deadlines, etc.
