Janeway
I love the looks of Guest Hollow Chemistry and think we would all enjoy it. But, older son will be done with algebra 2 and is strong in math so he really can do something much more challenging than Guest Hollow. But I also feel Guest Hollow is strong and amazing on the many conceptual topics as well as history. Would it be reasonable to do Guest Hollow with both together and then run along side, for the older child, a math based program?
Monica_in_Switzerland
I would put the older kid into a high school level chemistry course with math. You can look for lots of online classes- EdEx, Great Courses, etc. I would not have him double up doing both a lower level program and a math-based chemistry- it would be a waste of his time.
Penelope
You could do a standard course and just add in some of the other reading. I would be very selective, though. Maybe one book a semester, or selected chapters from whichever you feel are the best. Edited August 14, 2017 by Penelope
katilac
Would it be reasonable to do Guest Hollow with both together and then run along side, for the older child, a math based program? Hmm, I'd reverse that - the older student should have a strong chemistry program, and then can join in on Guest Hollow as desired. I'd make it completely voluntary, though. If he loves chemistry and enjoys some of the extras, great. But my kids found one complete chemistry program to be more than enough, lol. The program that is truly high school level has to come first.
