Earthmerlin
Anyone have a recommendation for a retelling of Moby Dick? I see this one on Amazon but am looking for input. https://www.amazon.com/Moby-Dick-Retold-Kids-Beginner/dp/1491092890/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1502506249&sr=8-1&keywords=moby+dick+for+kids
kubiac
We found this one at a thrift shop and my kid whipped through it. Seemed to leave a good impression: http://amzn.to/2vzAdnI If your kid is 12+ or an extremely advanced/voracious reader of any age, I recommend the Oxford Press version retold by Geraldine McCreaghan and illustrated by the great Victor Ambrus: http://amzn.to/2vzfa4I
Lori D.
The Great Illustrated Classics versions are at a 3rd grade reader level, which should be very workable as a read-aloud for younger ages. (I linked Moby Dick.) I'm also wondering if a graphic novel version might be fun: Campfire Graphics version by Stahlmar & Kumar seems to have a lot of original text for retelling the story. Perhaps the Marvel graphic novel by Thomas & Alixe. (see samples here). The HMR Books for Young Readers version doesn't retain original text, BUT it has insert pages with a lot of info on whales and whaling -- which is part of Melville's novel. nixpix5
Walker illustrated classics version with illustrator Benson is nice. It is beautiful but it is not an unabridged version if that is important. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1406317446/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 Edited August 14, 2017 by nixpix5

I love it! The vocab is great! I have to admit that I'm learning quite a bit alongside my daughter. I requested books about whaling as well & learned Starbucks coffee is named after the book's character (who knew?). We're folding in new vocab, geogrpahy & Bible stories. Is there anything else you've included in a book or unit study? (I'm pumped!)
