TheAttachedMama
Can anyone review the RS4K Building Blocks series? (Especially their middle school books....or at least Grade 5+) If you have taken some looks at their samples (or in real life) what was your opinion? Farrar
I think they made a whole new series of books and still decided to keep using comic sans. :glare:
TheAttachedMama
I think they made a whole new series of books and still decided to keep using comic sans. :glare: Hahahahahah!!! It is 5:16AM here, and I almost woke up the whole house laughing at your reply. But...I know!?! I was just looking at Mr. Q samples too....and guess what font he uses?! COMIC SANS. What is up with the use of comic sans in all of these science programs?! I keep telling myself that it is wrong to discount an entire program *just* because of the font. BUT....you know....it is comic sans. ugh. Besides the annoying font, what other feedback can people give me?
Insertcreativenamehere
I frequently discount programs because of Comic Sans. I just can't take them seriously, regardless of how good the content might be. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
Farrar
I'm pretty sure RSO uses it too... though it has a much better reputation. Scientists aren't good at graphic design? More seriously, it looks much better than the original RS4K books, though I didn't like those at all - they were like glorified vocabulary programs. I wouldn't personally use it because I don't consider the author to be secular (she's a proponent of intelligent design and some of the language in the original series was leaning that way). However, without someone really reading through it, I don't know if it's an issue with this series.
fastweedpuller
So funny: I saw you responded to this, Farrar, and I thought to myself, "I am sure she's going to have something to say about Comic Sans"
AdventuresinHomeschooling
We used the Focus on Chemistry middle school. I really liked the textbook, and found that to be refreshing after just using science encyclopedias in other programs...even though it is comic sans. It is very well written without dumbing down the info for kids either. I didn't see any young earth references either, and I do believe the author claims it to be a secular program. I also hate really chatty textbooks, and this is just the right amount of information broken down for good understanding and visual aids. The experiments were set up well, even though the first two were a little boring. The Building Blocks series looks like the exact same content from the Focus series mixed to have a little bit of each topic mixed into each grade. I personally prefer the Focus approach.
