I've done it two ways.

 

First, using cle's calendar book. It's listed with their first and second grade math.

 

Second, using the printable version in thr layers of learning elementary planner.

 

We all liked and appreciated both equally.

I did it in 1st grade. I found a bunch of freebies online -- the day of the week, number of the day, weather, etc. and put them in page protectors, and let dd write in dry erase markers. They were in a binder and she worked on that for 15min or so at the kitchen table while I tidied up from breakfast.
