Bristayl
I saw the posts about the TI-84 being on sale, but was wondering what the Nspire CX CAS would be going for if it were on sale. Right now the cheapest I see for a new one is $120. Does anyone know if I could expect it to go lower than that?
mirabillis
I just bought one. I only need a TI-84 Plus for this year - but see I'll be required to get an Nspire CX CAS for the following year Calculus. So decided instead of buying one, then the next to buy an Nspire now. I got mine on Amazon for $93.99 - bought it Used - Like New condition, but on Prime so I'd have free returns if it didn't work. I see new they are $140 on Amazon so $120 is pretty good.
Bristayl
Thanks! That seemed like a decent price to me, too. I was just wondering if anyone had bought one on sale last year at a lower price than that.
Arcadia
I don't remember Target or Staples or Walmart having a lower price on the TI Nspire CAS CX last summer. We were looking because we were curious and wanted a spare. Kids are allowed to bring two calculators for AP exams so we don't mind buying a spare and my kids would have fun with different models. Kids at a recent camp my oldest attended was playing Minecraft on the TI Nspire.

TI 84 works fine for Calc 1 FYI - some colleges do not allow CAS calculators for Calculus classes because it limits the fairness of questions on exams. RootAnn
It is a particular online provider's requirement for that class. (Wilson Hill, I assume.)
mirabillis
It is a particular online provider's requirement for that class. (Wilson Hill, I assume.) yes precisely. although knowing us, we may change by the time we get to calculus and it would have been for naught. LOL! but at least for 93.99 for me, it wasn't too much more than the ti-84 anyway.

You'll be happy you purchased it even if it is not required for the class you end up taking.
Bristayl
Well, turns out the $120 price I was seeing was for the non-CAS version. Thankfully, I noticed that before ordering it! I found a new CX CAS for $130 and have ordered that. We already have the non-CAS Nspire CX and I figure my kids can use the CAS one on the SAT and the non-CAS one on the ACT! I have noticed, as someone pointed out above, that classes vary a lot in calculator policies for Calculus. Our local community college allows a graphing calculator but not an Nspire, not even the non-CAS version. The nearby university where dd is dual enrolled does not allow a graphing calculator at all on tests, but only a scientific calculator like the TI-30XA or TI-30XIIS (we have the latter--I guess I'm giving TI a lot of business, haha!). A private university a couple of hours away, on the other hand, requires a CAS-capable calculator for all of their math classes beginning with College Algebra! They prefer the TI-89 or TI Voyage 200 (which I wasn't familiar with), but they allow the Nspire CAS. I liked the color screen and keypad on the Nspire CX CAS so decided to go with that.
