What are the best brands and kinds? My 3 year old loves to color but gets very frustrated because the colors don't show up very well. He also gets upset because the regular crayons are too hard to hold. We use triangle crayolas, cheap dollar store chubby crayons, regular crayola crayons and crayola pencils.

For colored pencils we like Lyra Ferby.  They're triangle shaped and chunky.  Crayons - Stockmar.

You'll get sticker shock looking at both of them but they last FOREVER, and they color well.

Thanks! Looking at the stockmar ones I see blocks and regular shaped what one do you think is better?

We have both.  In our house, the chunky crayons are more used for coloring and the block crayons are used for doing rubbings.

What about crayon rocks? Easy to hold and will help with tripod grip and they're vivid.
