klmama
Is there an easy way to see what's happening to the sun without ruining our eyes? Or should we just look out the window in another direction to see how it affects the lighting? What are you doing, how do you make it, or where do you buy it? Thanks. Lori D.
You still have a month to prepare -- the solar eclipse will take place on Aug. 21. :) That same website has an article on How To View a Solar Eclipse Without Damaging Your Eyes. Elfknitter.#
Some local libraries might have glasses for giveaways or viewing parties. You want the glasses.
athomeontheprairie
I'm confused. The eclipse is a month away. You still have time to prepare. Unless you live outside the zone and need to travel? And hotels are booked and can't get time of work? What do you need? Perhaps the hive can help you get ready?

BarbecueMom
Lowe's had a display near the self-check registers with eclipse glasses and little overpriced books and stuff when I was there last week. We're in the totality path, so YMMV on what your local store has.
mom31257
I ordered this pack of glasses. My dad and sister live in a perfect viewing path, and it's the day after dd moves back to college near the same area. Ds and I are going up there to view it, and my best friend and her kids are coming along. So it's going to be an eclipse party at my sister's house. klmama
I picked these up on prime day. I think we are at 90%+. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N17N0MO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Did they come quickly? Amazon's website says they'll ship in 1-2 months. Tess in the Burbs
I ordered glasses on Amazon and got non certified crap from China. Be sure they are US made and have CE and ISO #s on them. I ended up getting mine from Classical Astronomy. I tried a year ago to get a camping spot. No luck. We will be 92% here, SO i'm planning on watching here at home

Ali in OR
We have glasses. We're in the path of totality and it's not too hard to find glasses around here. I bought some from Amazon, we got some for attending an eclipse info session at the library, dh got a pair taking a class on how to make filters for your camera (he also bought a filter for his SLR camera), dd got a pair from her science class, and our local astronomy club is selling them for $1 a pair at the county fair. Large organizations hosting viewing parties say they will have them available for free, but I'm guessing they'll run out. Many stores are selling them for $3-$4 a pair. We're trying to figure out where exactly we'll be--checking sun angles etc. My preference is to view it from my backyard, but only if the trees don't block the sun. May have to go somewhere else nearby, preferably walking distance as I don't want to drive that day. Cat will sleep through it, dog will probably be put in crate for a nap. Dh will be trying some eclipse photography. I want a picture of the girls wearing their viewing glasses and looking up at the sun for scrapbooking (not at totality because I want to experience that fully--no photos for me). They are made in China, but they do have CE and ISO on them but not a number. Should I be concerned? When I look through them here in the house, everything is black, so I assumed they would work to look at the sun.
mom31257
Actually, some of them have numbers beside ISO. The more narrow pairs have it and say safe for direct solar viewing. The bigger pairs don't have either of those but say they prevent UV400.
