What are you doing to prepare for the eclipse?

Is there an easy way to see what's happening to the sun without ruining our eyes?  Or should we just look out the window in another direction to see how it affects the lighting?  What are you doing, how do you make it, or where do you buy it?  Thanks.

I ordered glasses on Amazon and got non certified crap from China.

Be sure they are US made and have CE and ISO #s on them.

I ended up getting mine from Classical Astronomy.

I tried a year ago to get a camping spot. No luck. We will be 92% here, SO i'm planning on watching here at home

It will be about 90% here and I have to work, so I will just view from here.

We have glasses. We're in the path of totality and it's not too hard to find glasses around here. I bought some from Amazon, we got some for attending an eclipse info session at the library, dh got a pair taking a class on how to make filters for your camera (he also bought a filter for his SLR camera), dd got a pair from her science class, and our local astronomy club is selling them for $1 a pair at the county fair. Large organizations hosting viewing parties say they will have them available for free, but I'm guessing they'll run out. Many stores are selling them for $3-$4 a pair.

We're trying to figure out where exactly we'll be--checking sun angles etc. My preference is to view it from my backyard, but only if the trees don't block the sun. May have to go somewhere else nearby, preferably walking distance as I don't want to drive that day. Cat will sleep through it, dog will probably be put in crate for a nap. Dh will be trying some eclipse photography. I want a picture of the girls wearing their viewing glasses and looking up at the sun for scrapbooking (not at totality because I want to experience that fully--no photos for me).

I ordered from Amazon. They are made in China, but they do have CE and ISO on them but not a number. Should I be concerned? When I look through them here in the house, everything is black, so I assumed they would work to look at the sun.
