The baptism happened!

I'd posted about my angst about arranging the baptism for my youngest...where to do it during the Mass or after, where to eat, etc. Then it got canceled due to illness, and none of what I planned happened, lol. Finally, she was baptized today! It was after the Mass, just us. Which worked out because she fussed the whole ceremony, and it was no big deal since it was just us. And I think my family (not Catholic) was more comfortable this way. Everyone looked great, and we had cousins in matching colors totally by accident. Even the baby outfit I brought for later had that same sea green color! And my agnostic teen Aspie was so polite, and made not a single peep about not wanting to go to Mass, and even got up on time and got ready with no prompting! (he did dress a bit more casual than I prefer, but I didn't say a word, which I'm also proud of, lol).

Anyway, thanks for the input and prayers and such...and basically I wanted to share some pictures with all the WTM Aunties! (the tall kid is my 18 year old, the little boy is mine, and the girl in the floral dress and white sweater is mine. The guy holding the candle is the godfather and a friend, the other one with a beard is my husband, and then there's my mom and dad and my sister and my nieces. And the priest and the baby of course.45d2571df85b5728c339a747dae716a6.jpgadf8507b613112d6f5a0a4f8dc77f566.jpg

:crying: <----- happy tears

Beautiful! Congratulations! :grouphug:

Aww! I cried happy tears on the way to church (while the baby cried just regular old mad about being in the car tears). And again as the baptism happened.

I adore baptisms. Any baptism. I often tear up for perfect strangers. My own kid? Forget about it, lol.

For many many many years, basically a decade, I thought I'd be a mom of one and pray for peace about it, while watching the big families take up a pew at church. Today, I looked at my four kids, sitting in a church politely, and about lost it. So incredibly grateful for the miracle that is my family.

And we ate at Bahama Breeze, a late lunch, and that went well too. Everyone enjoyed their food, several of us had cocktails that were delicious, and the bill, after my husband's Darden employee discount, was right about what we would have spent on food and decorations if we'd done it at the house. Maybe a bit more, but not a lot more. So that was good. Hubby was pleased with the cost and the food. And everyone left stuffed, even my niece who is very picky.

It all sounds lovely!

On my middle son's baptism day, he was fine all thru Mass, then during an unusually long homily by Father Bob, who was usually the soul of brevity, he started WAILING! So I got up to take him out to walk him around a bit...

Which prompted Father to say from the lectern, "I better stop now. Our guest of honor is unhappy! Come back, I'll stop talking."

Congratulations! It sounds perfect!

Thank you, it was! I mean, other than the baby fussing during it. But she was silent in Mass before hand, and an angel at the restaurant afterwards, so all in all all good.

She's asleep on my chest now, totally worn out. And she smells SO good from the sacred chrism oil they put on her.

I feel the same way! We had two and I thought we were done. After several years (when I was resigned to giving away the baby gear), DH and I decided we weren't done. Life's crazy sometimes, especially this week, but when I see all four of my kids together, it brings such joy to my heart. Edited by ErinE

Congratulations!  I love the look she's giving the bowl of water (is there a more technical term for it?) in the first picture.

She's definitely throwing shade, as I believe the kids call it. She's not a fan of water. And it's called a "font" :)

What a beautiful family, Katie! I remember the thread where you were trying to decide what to do, where to eat, etc. It seems to have all worked out very well. Welcome to the Church, sweet baby! (I'm sorry that I forgot her name! I know there was a thread about that, too). Congratulations to the whole family. I teared up reading about you tearing up looking at your four children!

When my youngest was baptised Father apparently used an extra measure of the Chrism oil and just gently rubbed it in for a while. DS was so incredibly fussy until that point and Father kept rubbing the oil and murmuring French to him. Lo and behold, DS finally looked up at him, sighed deeply, and went to sleep. Even though that priest moved to a different parish a year ago, (so, three years after the youngest's baptism) my ds still refers to him as "The Father". Every other priest, including the new (for a year now) rector, is Father [name].

And ds also smelled of Chrism oil for weeks afterward. I was loathe to bathe him.

Congratulations! The whole event - ceremony plus celebratory meal - sounds just lovely.
