I'm getting goosebumps hearing and seeing it. Susan Ford Bales (sponsor) gave the order to "Man our ship and bring her to life!" Then the crew responded "Aye, Aye!", the band played Anchors Aweigh, and spectators cheered and clapped as the crew ran to board the ship.

My sister's husband was involved in the mechanical drafting of this ship. Our extended family has been excitedly discussing it on Facebook today.

From BIL's facebook post this morning:

******

Flip on *certain news channel* for the live coverage of the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier commissioning ceremony.

I had a 3D design & drawing hand as a 3D Product Model Coordinator (PMC) back in 2000-2007 @ Newport News Shipbuilding (AKA Huntington Ingalls Industries). America's latest "Big Stick" to join the U.S. Navy fleet

Indeed, Made In America!

Big day for Shipbuilders, God Bless America

One of my college roommates worked on the design of this ship, too.

It's always so cool to see one's design get put into use. My DH still sends me pictures of every A380 he sees when he travels.

Wow. That's massive.  Thanks for sharing.  It wouldn't have been on my radar at all normally.  I have really complicated feelings seeing that.  My dad was in the US Navy -- served on the Ranger, Saratoga and Independence.  It's indelible in my mind the times we waited for his return and saw those ships come in.  Very bittersweet memories.

I'm sorry, folks, that I didn't respond sooner. I must have seen something shiny and gotten distracted.

Thanks for sharing your stories.

I love our Navy.

I tell DH the only way I would have fallen harder for him would have been if he had been Navy instead of Air Force. And if he had red hair.
