Ok, I'm going to get the haircut tomorrow. (New pics in Post #20)

I've been wanting a shorter haircut for at least a year. Several months ago I went in to do it but chickened out. Instead I got 5-6 inches cut off and was able to continue wearing it in a pony tail. Only now some of the hairs work their way out of the pony tail so I have two great big barrettes on either side of my head behind my ears. I am so ready for something cute. I called my stylist to make an appointment and usually I have to wait 4-5 weeks to get in because she's at my salon only 2 days a week. Well, there was a cancellation and she has an open appointment tomorrow. So no more thinking about it and perhaps cancelling. I'm just going to do it. I know she won't want to cut it really short. She helped my dd transition from long hair to a pixie cut over several months just to make sure she was fine with each haircut. I'm both nervous and excited at the same time.

Here's a current picture of me. If I cut it up into a wavy bob, will that work? Do I want it stacked in the back? I'm worried my poofy hair will just poof out more with a bob look.

It took me forever to figure out how to post that picture, and now it's small. Even my youngest dd couldn't figure it out.

Bob cuts scare the heck out of me and I know a couple of younger women who wear them very well. The one's hair is fairly short and it is quite wavy but it looks good. The other one's hair is straight, she lightened it and it is very cute on her, a little longer; she also wears makeup.

I too transition slowly (usually) when going short but I don't like short hair on myself. I look good with bangs but sick of them.

The right cut to complement the shape of the face can be hard to find, as well as color. I've started wearing makeup more and defining my eyebrows which has also helped me look better in my eyes. When I got my hair cut the last time, people thought I had colored my hair because the sun bleached stuff was cut off, making it much darker.

If I were you, I'd get 1-2" cut off. Doing a stacked bob with wavy hair is okay, you can straighten it for a different look too.

When I clicked on your photo on my laptop, it was bigger, so it worked for me.

The good news is that I trust this stylist. We were with her at least 2 years, until dd went away to college last Fall. I know how she thinks. And all of her suggestions for either dd or me were right on target. So I'm going in tomorrow pretty much a blank slate. I'm going to tell her what I want to end up with and how can we get there in stages.

Yes, I'll post an after pic. I just hope it's enough of a change that it doesn't look like I'm sending the same pic twice. :)

I'd probably do a longer bob, maybe two inches or so below chin length? Not stacked but if you wear it curly I'd play that up by scrunching it to encourage more curls.

I also think you'd look beautiful in a pixie. Either of these lengths:

Pixie is my ultimate goal. I just don't know if my stylist will want to make such a drastic change so fast. She's known me over 2 years and she cut my hair a couple of times, but never short. My dd was going to her every 6 weeks to keep her short hair trimmed. I don't really consider my hair curly, more wavy, and I don't do anything with it. When I wash it, I let it air dry and then I put it in a pony tail and barrettes. It doesn't hang down my neck or the sides of my face at all. That's what I like about it. I don't want hair touching my neck or falling into my eyes if I lean forward. That's why I think a pixie would be good for me. I can handle getting it trimmed every 4-6 weeks. Dd was able to stretch it out to 6 weeks because the salon is so expensive.

I wish I had some pictures to take in with me tomorrow but I haven't really found one cut that screams ME. I'm going to look again in the morning. Maybe I'll find some type of inspiration.

I have a bob and super thick hair and the stacking kind of makes it poofier in the back. Depending on how thick your hair is you could get an undercut in the back. It's what I do. I have had designs put in it but now don't and just have it faded up. Generally no one knows I have it because my hair is too short for it to be in a ponytail.

I have wavy hair and once did a bob with it stacked in the back. No more. While the shortest lengths of the stack were fine, the longer ones would turn up in all different directions. It never laid smoothly like it did when I originally left the salon.

I second the straightener. Best thing since sliced bread. It smooths my hair, helps to control the frizz, and will last until the next time I wash my hair.

Ok, I printed out these pictures to show my stylist. I know my hair isn't that curly but it's kind of a what I want vs. what I don't want. I've looked at tons of pictures online and wish I had some other pictures to take to her. It's hard to know what my hair will do when shorter. Will it be poofier or straighter? I feel as if my wavy texture begins above my ears so if I cut off all the wavy, would my hair be straighter? I just don't know. That's a question for her I suppose. My appointment is late afternoon. I'll post as soon as I get home.

I just spent two hours looking at cuts online. Good grief! At this point I'm thinking of going in and asking her to trim the edges and be done with it! Haha! I chose 5 pictures to show her, specifically points about each style that I like. Then I'll ask her to do the impossible and put them together into one fabulous haircut that doesn't require me spending more than 5 minutes styling my hair in the morning. Wash and go is ideal but I'm willing to use a little product and a hair dryer if my hair is short. No curling or flat irons. I'm too old and disinterested in going to that much trouble for a look.

I'm leaving in 25 minutes. I've been antsy all day. This waiting around is killing me. I don't know what I'll end up with, but thank you for being interested. I told DH I'd like to change my mind but I've already posted on my board that I'm getting it done so now I have to follow through or look stupid.

Bringing in multiple pictures is a great idea. Remember too that you can probably get it curlier by scrunching and training the curls for few weeks. That's the trick to wearing those curly bobs is to use a lot less heat and time and a lot more wash and go.

I went from what I thought was messy wavy hair to ringlets when I made an effort to encourage the curls, and I get more of them when it is shorter because there is less weight pulling them straight.

Ok, I got a pixie cut and love it! It's so funny, it's all off my face just like when I wear a pony tail so I don't feel much different yet. I can't wait to wash it for the first time because it's going to feel so weird! And she made this a wash and go style. I just run wet hands through my hair in the morning and I'm ready to go! Yay!

It's great! Really suits you! Are you going to try wearing it straight or with more texture on top? If the latter do get a good styling wax (I like Tigi's). It definitely transforms your face and brings it out. Love!
