sarahsheart Posted June 27, 2017 Share Posted June 27, 2017 This is my second year teaching at home but my first year to add our 2nd child. So far what we like for older brother has been SM (SE), SWO, Z-B, MCT Island level, we also did Cycle 2 of C.C last year with lots of living books on the history subject. However, my opinion of these curriculum choices steam from starting with an already reading AL 2nd grader. DS #2 was going to 1 last year of local preschool before coming home but is saying he want's to "stay home & do school". DS#2 is more than ready for blending & reading & I think I've settled on AAR for our reading curriculum. I'm torn between adding AAS or SWO when the time comes. I'm also looking for a math curriculum to do lightly (read at our own pace) with him. We are loving SM (ST) but I haven't heard much on their Kindergarten books. Or if I should just look at starting slow with 1A? My final thoughts turn towards the possibility of doing (BFOSU) with both boys together. We haven't done anything formal with science at home yet but I'm liking the reviews on this curriculum. Has anyone done 2 kids at the same time with an age/grade gap? Kiara.I Posted June 27, 2017 Share Posted June 27, 2017 Honestly, don't decide a grade 2 spelling program for a preschool age child. ;) Keep both in mind, and by the time you actually need one you might have settled on one. I haven't tried Singapore, we did Rightstart Math with ours and it's very appropriate for a pre-K program, if done at the child's pace. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
blendergal Posted June 29, 2017 Share Posted June 29, 2017 I've really enjoyed working through the Essential Math books (from Singapore Math) with our pre-Ker. Take a look at the sample pages and see if the difficulty seems right. The first book was pretty easy but I think he'll finish the second book ready for 1A. fdrinca Posted June 29, 2017 Share Posted June 29, 2017 Singapore's Earlybird Marth is colorful and appealing to many kiddos. We have done both the EB sequence and skipping right to 1A. I feel as though most kiddos with an enriching home life would probably not need EB, but we also have mathy kids.
