klmama
I'm trying to decide if it would be better to have dc study earth science in 8th and physical science in 9th, or vice versa. Any concerns with doing it one way vs the other? Edited June 26, 2017 by klmama
regentrude
Why physical science at all, and not actual physics and chemistry at high school level?
klmama
I plan for this dc to take chemistry as a junior and possibly physics as a senior. I want to wait on the math-heavy sciences until dc has completed algebra 2.
regentrude
In this case I would not bother with physical science at all and save that high school year for something different.
Momto6inIN
My kids have all done physical science in 8th, then bio/chem/physics in high school, with their final year in high school as a science elective, which earth science would fit as. merylvdm
You only need Algebra 1 for Chemistry - my youngest decided to go to public school and they do that in 9th and Biology in 10th for the kids who have Algebra 1. For the 3 I homeschooled through high school they did Physical Science in 8th and then 9th Biology 10th Chemistry 11th Physics 12th Advanced (AP) Chem or Physics They all did science electives too - one did Forensics, one did Meteorology and one did Epidemiology
klmama
I am aware of the usual order of classes. I have already graduated two students. I would prefer to follow a different track with this one. Could we please go back to the question I asked? If the ONLY OPTIONS on the table for 8th and 9th grades are earth science and physical science, is there any reason to take one in 8th and the other in 9th? Thanks. Thanks. I honestly don't think it matters, but I'd lean towards earth science in 9th since that seems like it would be more contrast on the transcript.
TN Mama
I would just want to make sure that a) the class is high school level and b) that the colleges where the child would be applying accept your 9th grade selection as a science credit. :)
Lilaclady
For those 2- I will do earth science in 8th then physical science in 9th. Physical science wil help with physics and chemistry if the student wants to continue with either.
