Good morning and welcome to the Lounge!

Today's theme stems from two things I wanted to attend yesterday that didn't work out: a Lavender Festival in a town a few hours away and

a 2 hour onlne class on the benefits of lavender essential oil.

Do you use lavender essential oil  and if so, what do you use it for? Here: yes, to the oil, although I'd like to delve into using the plant, as well.

We use the essential oil mostly for helping with relaxation and sleep. Although it is great for sunburns and so many other things too. Great healing properties!

Do you, or have you ever used, the actual lavender plant? Here: no, but that doesn't mean I won't. Well, I did use it as a table decoration last fall, so there's that.

Would you do a one day turn-around trip to a Lavender Festival (or any festival, for that matter) to a town that was almost 4 hours away? Here: discovered the one I wanted to go to yesterday still has several more days to go, so I just might! Especially if I can talk a friend into going with me!

To answer some questions and respond some posts from yesterday: Butter, it doesn't surprise me that you like to eat spicy food when it's hot - hot spices tend to get the blood in your veins flowing more quickly, which then raises the body temperature, this making the difference between your body temp and outside temp less vast. Plus, hot spices tend to make us sweat thereby creating a cooling effect.

Ravin, yes it cooled down to 111*F here yesterday. If I remember correctly, you and I don't live to far away from one another. I think my car thermometer showed between 115 - 117 at the hottest yesterday.

Amy, I tend to not want to eat anything. And we tend to drink LOTS of water, interspersed with some sort of electrolyte drink. If we do eat, it's something light - or whatever is in the pantry. Thankfully, right now, summer fruits are in abundance and not very expensive. We munch on those a lot too!

Talk to me! :bigear:

Lavender EO: Yes, for sunburns and in the allergy blend (peppermint, lemon, lavender) I diffuse sometimes.

Lavender Plant: My husband has a huge herb garden in the front of the house.  My friend's teens were doing a Harry Potter summer camp for kids at their house and so my friend, playing the part of the Herbology professor came to our house to get some clippings of my husband's herbs.  I couldn't identify one of the plants and neither could she.  Turns out, it's lavender.  So, yes, we apparently are growing it.

One day with long drive: Yes, if I really wanted to go.

Lavender bothers my allergies so I do not use it.

Today is dd's birthday. She is 26. I am playing with my grandson, and he is finely getting really comfortable with me.

Niece's wedding is this evening. The colors are lavender, purple, and green. So lavender. There. I have something to contribute! :D

It's just after noon here, so good afternoon!

I don't use any essential oils, but I don't like the smell of lavender, so I don't use anything lavender.

I would consider a one day trip within that long of a distance, but it would have to be something that was very, very fun or very important to me.  I would leave very early in the morning (like 5 AM), so that I would get some good time there during the day.

I'm in traffic and dd is driving so I thought I'd check in with you guys.

I don't use lavender EO anymore. While I like the smell, I don't actually find it a relaxing smell. I used to use it in the rice socks I used to make.

We have a lavender plant. Sometimes I'll use it to fill some vases if we have company. For some reason, my dog likes that plant.

For an out of town festival. .. if would have to be something I really want to attend and I'd want to have a friend with me. Otherwise, no. I spend way too much time in the car these days. It is summer and everyone in Chicago is in their car heading into the city. D's practice is at 5.

We usually leave at 3 to try to be on the road only an hour. That gives her time to study in the car and time to study/work on projects/hang out with friends before practice starts. Now that it is summer, we have to leave earlier. Knowing that Friday is usually worse, we left at 2:45. It is expected to take 1.5 hours. While I am looking forward to not dealing with this traffic, that will.mean that dd will be away at college <sniff sniff>.

I like spicy foods all the time, regardless of the weather. I do drink cold coffee in the summer - brewed strong and cooled, then add lots of cold whole milk. We eat lots of fruit when it is hot and salads and kids make popsicles. Almost no soup or stew in the summer.

Lavender. Dh dislikes the scent, so I don't use it for anything. I used to have it in my herb garden, but an ice storm got it a few winters ago. Dd has some sachets with lavender in them.

4hr drive x2 in one day. No how. If I really wanted to go, I'd find a way to spend the night there with a friend or Dh.

Rain all day here yesterday and today. Ds did get swim practice in before they closed the pool. He is very grouchy today. From no sun?
