Bensmom
My ds 14 is a swimmer. We were in urgent care today with ear pain and told that his ear is so full of dark puss, it is impossible to tell exactly what is going on in there. Dr. suspects an untreated ear infection and inflammation has caused a perforation. We were given amoxicillin and ear drops, and told to return Monday to be reexamined. Ds is very disappointed to be out of the water. He is having a great season and expects to do well at state championships next month. If you or someone you know has had a similar dx, and they were a swimmer, how long were they out of the water? Were custom ear plugs an option? Is there anything we can do to encourage quick healing? I just don't know what to expect. The dr. was a little vague, but said after he rechecks ds's ears on Monday, he may refer us to a specialist. I just wish I knew more about what to expect. zoobie
If he's got championships soon, I would go on to the ENT and not wait, or at least call the ENT office and see if they think it's worth a visit. DS had a regular case of swimmer's ear that didn't clear with the drops. The ENT put in some kind of powder that made it better immediately. I hope he feels better soon!
