popmom
Here's the deal: My current mattress is about 10 years old. It has been driving my crazy for about 6 years (when we first moved in to this house). I'm not sure if it's the box spring or our bed, but it makes a lot of noise--creaky, etc. Everytime my 200lb husband moves, I bounce around--and the noise... I've been mattress shopping, but I can not find anything that I feel like is worth all the $$$. Everything is so expensive. And they're all "no flip" now-- which is a scam, so you only get half the life out of them. Coincidentally, about a year ago, we bought a small camper. It has a 4 inch firm foam mattress. We added a 2 inch memory foam type topper (Serene Foam ordered from Amazon). We've only camped about 9 nights in that camper, but I sleep SO WELL on that 6 inch mattress set up. I can't feel my husband move, and it's SILENT. I've started thinking--how can I have that in my house? I am seriously considering an Ikea mattress. Please advise if you have any recommendations. Right now I'm thinking about one of their cheaper foam mattresses and then adding a quality memory foam or latex topper. Not sure what kind of frame or platform I would need since they don't have a box spring. I have no problem getting rid of my current bed since it may be part of the noise problem. Thanks! Laura Corin
We've had the cheaper foam mattresses and they are fine but don't last that long. On the other hand, the structured ones are really good, in our experience. We have two and they are holding up well. Tap
DD18 has a chronic pain issue and wanted memory foam bed. She picked out a Matrand foam mattress and a Tromsdalen latex topper. She loves this combination, but she is 140lb, so I don't know how it would work for someone heavier. I haven't slept on her bed yet, but just to lay on it and chat....it is very comfy! I think that all in all, the Full size combination was about $600 My other two kids really like their full size spring mattress from Ikea too. I don't remember the style name, but they were between $500-600 each. I have slept on them and they are super cozy.

happi duck
We have an Ikea matress on top of our old box spring. We like it a lot! I have no idea which one it is. I think it's in the mid price range. So not the more structured ones.
Tap
What sort of foundation are y'all using for your Ikea mattresses? The kids all have the Malm bed frame with drawers, and slatted bases. We bought the highest end (non-adjustable) slats that they sold at the time we bought each mattress. DD18 has the Lonset style but the other beds are a bit different. I think they were each around $100.
Laura Corin
What sort of foundation are y'all using for your Ikea mattresses? Ikea wooden slats. We have this with this and this, I think: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/beds/double-king-size-beds/malm-bed-frame-high-w-4-storage-boxes-brown-stained-ash-veneer-lur%C3%B6y-spr-19188356/ http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/mattresses/slatted-bed-bases/lur%C3%B6y-slatted-bed-base-art-50278726/ http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/mattresses/mattresses-toppers/hamarvik-sprung-mattress-medium-firm-dark-beige-art-50258728/
rebbyribs
Our bed has an IKEA innerspring mattress that we've had for 11 years, plus a newer mattress topper also from IKEA. We replaced the topper 2 years ago, but kept using the same mattress and haven't had any problems (we weigh 160-180 lbs each). The bed is from IKEA as well, and it has the straight wooden slats. The kids have some of the less expensive IKEA foam twin mattresses, but they only weigh 50-70 lbs, so they'd probably be comfortable on mattresses that wouldn't work well for larger people.
elegantlion
I've had my IKEA mattress for about 2 years. I have an old iron bed with a solid plywood base. The mattress (one of their mid to lower range ones) has been fine for me and my big dog. The best part was that it came rolled up. We saw two mattress being moved in cars on the same day we bought mine. One blew off on the highway, while mine (full size) was rolled up in the back seat of an Impala. I can't speak to the longevity, but it's not noisy.

tdbates78
Not an Ikea mattress, as we heard negative reviews, but I purchased this one on amazon. Came rolled up, was less than $300, and gets pretty stellar reviews. We've had it since March and really like it. https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-Memory-Green-Mattress-Queen/dp/B00Q7EPSHI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1498180320&sr=8-3&keywords=Mattress Edited June 23, 2017 by tdbates78
4kidlets4me
We have this one I think http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60272149/#/20272146 I love it. It's not noisy and it's super comfy. We've had it for over a year and it's holding up wonderfully. We have an Ikea bedframe with the slats. I think we went with the more expensive slats. meena
Sorry, but I have to be a dissenter. We have Ikea mattresses on our kids' beds, and they *really* don't like them. Two of them are foam with toppers, and I think they're just too firm. The third child also had foam but when we had to replace the mattress due to a change in bed frame size, we went with a spring mattress. That one is okay. There are so many "mattress in a box" companies now that have good quality options at good prices that I would probably try one of those before buying another one from Ikea. Costco also has some good prices--that's where my mattress came from.

Does it have an odor? (asking because it says it's infused with green tea extract and castor seed oil to prevent odor and bacteria)
luuknam
We had an IKEA mattress for iirc 7 years - then we moved, and in the process of moving we had it on the floor for a few days, and it got wet (it was winter, and the thin floor was all that separated it from the crawl space under the house). Since it was a cross-country move, it stayed damp for a few days in the moving pod, so we ended up getting a new mattress after the move. I liked the IKEA mattress better, my wife likes the new mattress better. The IKEA mattress was iirc $200 for a king size, and they didn't make that specific one anymore when we moved (we stopped at the IKEA in Pittsburgh on the way here because we figured we were going to need a new mattress). We ended up buying a mattress from some mattress place in Buffalo instead, for probably something like $800. In both cases, we had the mattress on slats, by which I mean 1x4s (my wife built our bed herself). But yeah, the new mattress is not flippable, and it just doesn't seem to support me well enough - it was fine at first, but after a year or two I started sinking into my spot too much, so I often try to sleep exactly in the center of the bed instead (obviously, my wife isn't always all that amused by that - but since it's a king size bed, it works well enough often enough (but I should probably get a new mattress, because I'm not sleeping all that well... but it's only 4.5 years old, sigh, and my wife still likes it).
luuknam
Oh, and our kids have IKEA mattresses (I'm thinking the cheapest ones), but the kids' mattresses are thinner than the grown-up ones, so it's not a fair comparison.
ktgrok
All the mattresses are Ikea. The kids all have the cheap twin ones, and we have one of the nicer foam ones. Or maybe latex? Not the memory foam, the firmer one. And then a thin, cheapest memory foam topper. LOVE it. But...the noise comes from our box spring :(
popmom
Thanks for all the input. I'm taking all this into consideration. I checked out the link for the Zinus memory foam. That's very interesting--such a good price. I'll keep that in mind. But from what I can tell, it is a no flip. And not one I would put a topper on since it's already memory foam. That's such a good price though--maybe it doesn't matter. I was actually just looking at a Zinus slatted bed frame on Amazon. Didn't even know they also made mattresses. I think one of the main reasons I was considering Ikea over Amazon is that I can actually go try out the Ikea mattresses. If I order a rolled up mattress off Amazon and hate it, how would I return it? Love the idea of the Ikea latex mattress. I will only sleep on latex pillows. Love my latex pillows. My thought had been to buy a regular foam mattress and add a latex topper. I'll have to do a little number crunching. It may be just as economical to buy the latex mattress at Ikea. Latex toppers can be very pricey.
Ottakee
My brother is 300#+ and he and his wife have a tuft and needle mattress that they love. It came with a 90 day trial period. They have had it over a year and still love it and bought their kids tuft and needle mattresses. Not sure if that fits what you are looking for but it is working well for them. RegGuheert
What sort of foundation are y'all using for your Ikea mattresses? Our son has the "Sultan" (or some such) Ikea mattress with the curved wooden slats supporting it. We have those for our bed, too. Those things are awesome! They provide individual support for each side of the bed to keep it from caving in.
lavender's green
We had an Ikea Sultan and an Ikea topper, and I usually slept fine, but not while pregnant. Since I'm in the babies stage of life, we bought a nicer mattress and moved the Ikea one to another room. Guests love it, especially my FIL who weighs a lot more than 200 lbs. We never had any bouncing issues with it. Oh, and my kid who will sleep on the floor if his mattress is too soft loves his Ikea one. It was a major milestone for us - kid actually sleeping in a bed!
