teachermom2834
My ds has been pretty sure where he would be going since mid junior year. It feels strange (older ds was all over the place with what he wanted and applied to ten schools). School seems quite perfect for him, really. And it is very affordable so every time I try to think of more options they are always more expensive and don't seem to offer anything special to warrant it. I am very pleased with his choice and I don't see any downside, really. It somehow seems anti-climatic though. Part of me worries that he will change his mind in the next year and wish he had applied more places. He gives no indication of that, though, so I think I am just looking for something to worry about!! Anyone else have a kid who knows (or knew) far ahead where he would go? Did that hold all the way to the end? Did they end up disappointed they didn't pursue more options? It is pretty nice that he will have just one application with automatic merit aid. I know it is a good thing. Just feels strange! Edited June 20, 2017 by teachermom2834

My ds will apply as soon as the app opens in August and will be ready to go with a housing deposit as soon as that opens. He knows what dorm and kind of room he wants even :)
Closeacademy
She knows where she'd like to go but she's hoping to have a gap year as an exchange student then come home work for a year and apply during that period. It's really the only school around that would have classes for her interests.
SkateLeft
My younger daughter did that same thing. She set her sights on ONE school and said, "That's where I'm going." She applied as soon as the application period opened, and was admitted in August of her senior year, before we'd even started her senior classes. I spent half of her senior year trying to talk her into at least looking at other schools. I wanted her to apply to a handful of others, just so she'd have a choice. She said nope, and that one school was where she ended up. She loves it there, got a full-time job in town for the summer, sublet an apartment and didn't come home. I don't expect her to ever move back. Her junior year first choice has stayed her first choice!
Melissa B
My dd is hoping for a one-and-done. She is applying this week. We will have her DE transcript sent as soon as the Summer A grades are posted. Her last final was yesterday. I sent her ACT scores yesterday and will have her homeschool transcript in the mail by the end of the week. It's hard to believe we could be pretty much done in a few days. She may decide to take the ACT one more time in September in order to try for more merit aid, if she gets a higher score she will have a scholarship application to fill out, other than that I guess we would be done until next May. I'm a little worried she might later wish she had applied to a few more places. I'm on the fence about pushing the idea a bit. Her choice is a really good fit for her.
Guest
My rising senior will consider only one school. I've been trying and trying to convince him to at least give a glance at some others, but he's pretty dead-set on that one school.
G5052
I'll have two in college in the fall. Older one had a vague inkling. He's an orderly, analytic type, but didn't want engineering. He did some online interest surveys and came up with accounting, which we set him up with his first semester. He was the top business graduate at the 2-year and is headed for a 4-year. The other one isn't sure, but probably is going to do an English degree with a focus on rhetoric. Thankfully her academic plan the first two years is just core requirements. I tell them to keep their options open and pick something that seems like they would like it and go with it. I did computer science and hated programming. But I loved system design and management, and now teach web design at the college level. So you can work it.
creekland
My youngest was that way. After visiting colleges junior year, he zeroed in on just Eckerd. It's the only school he applied to. We didn't know it would be affordable, so his Plan B was to take a year off and work. It worked out. He wasn't super happy freshman first semester, but got a much better roommate and more involved in the spring and has loved it ever since. He graduates this year with no regrets at this point. Many kids at school apply to one school because they know that's where they want to go and see no need to apply to others, esp if they are relatively certain they'll get in. It's not really unusual. For some who are uncertain about getting in, they'll use Early Decision if available. It seems to help sway odds at many schools.
Sunshine State Sue
I think I am just looking for something to worry about!! All major decisions must involve much angst, you know. Sometimes I think I get some sick sort of pleasure from creating angst where there should be none.

He will definitely get admitted with automatic merit aid making it our cheapest desirable option. It is only 2 hours from home, and his ACT gets him automatic honors program admission. He will have 40+ de credit hours that appear will transfer in his major. We toured and really liked it and met with a very impressive and supportive advisor. Yet...I have angst?!?!?! Ack!
Laura Corin
Calvin knew from age 13 where he wanted to go, but it was hard to get in (academically) so he didn't know until he received his results in July that he was going in September. He did have a backup with lower academic requirements, but he didn't love it. Hobbes is still casting about. Liza Q
My son is completely sure of where he wants to go. Local and affordable. He isn't sure if he will stay there as he is torn between 2 majors - Business and Engineering - but we agree that it is a good place to start.
