OneStepAtATime
If you have a telescope or can gain access to one, this week and actually this year but especially this week Saturn and its rings will be at its most visible to us. We looked tonight. Way cool. It won't be this easy to see again for a long time. Also, Jupiter and the 4 biggest moons are pretty easy to see.
knitgrl
Thank you for the heads up! Hopefully we will not have significant cloud cover, as it often seems we do when we want to look at the sky.
OneStepAtATime
Bumping to make sure people see this. This week is the best chance.
knitgrl
We did not get a chance to see Saturn, due to the tree line and some cloud cover, but we did get to see Jupiter's moons, so that was cool. Thanks again!

Thanks again! :hurray: Yeah to see Saturn DH and I were shifting our telescope all over the yard. And didn't get a good look until maybe 11pm. The kids were ready to crash... :)
Renai
In which direction should we look? ETA: I hope this isn't a dumb question. Edited June 16, 2017 by Renai
knitgrl
Jupiter was in the west. It is super bright, brighter than anything else in that direction. It should not be too hard to find - and I am a total noob at astronomy. The moons are all lined up in a row.
OneStepAtATime
In which direction should we look? ETA: I hope this isn't a dumb question. Not a dumb question at all. Depends on where you are located but for Saturn right now it should be rising in the Southeast in the evening, depending on what time zone you are in. If you have a lot of houses and trees in the way it may not be visible until after 10pm or so. Maybe this will help... http://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/visible-planets-tonight-mars-jupiter-venus-saturn-mercury#saturn http://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/visible-planets-tonight-mars-jupiter-venus-saturn-mercury
