housemouse
Ds decided he wants to try learning Italian. What is there that is geared towards 5th/6th grade but absolute beginner? We have access to Duolingo and Mango languages, he uses them but he is not very fond of them. He likes workbooks and flashcards and videos if available. No Rosetta Stone, it crashes our computers every time. Thank you.
mom2bee
Use YouTube Videos to learn the alphabet and basic reading with correct pronunciation. Manuela Duca has some good reading videos on her channel, but I'm sure you could find something flashier, more entertaining if he wanted it. KidsTVItaliano and Storia e Canzoni per Bambini are full of videos that are animated, colorful and will expose him to songs, vocabulary and basic grammar and such. Basically, go on YouTube and look up series that he likes in English or that he liked in English and add on "per Bambini" is "for kids" and "in Italiano" is in Italian, so you can search many things and tag on those two phrases and get a lot of Italian Language hits. For Video Courses there is Professor Toto Muzzy Useful Book series that I always recommend Italian for Beginners by Angela Wilkes. There are different versions. The old one that had no audio, an internet linked version and one that comes with a CD. They are all identical on the inside, it's just that it seems difficult to get a used set with the Kids Stuff Italian Berlitz Kids Adventures with Nicholas Books are bilingual and come with CDs and have simple enough sentence structure that you can understand a lot of what is happening after a few readings of the English and learning key vocab from the 100 Words A Visit to Grandma The Missing Cat The Five Crayons Berlitz Kids Picture Dictionary in Italian*** This is a valuable resource because unlike many Kids Dictionaries, each word is used in an illustrated sentence and the translation is given so its a great way to learn more of the language.
