Marciaagar
I have read that many use something else as a base and use BA as a supplement. I want to do the opposite. DS in 4th grade has done very well with BA 4. Loves every minute. Rarely misses a problem and wants to continue with BA for 5th grade. BUT....I know he would benefit from some spiral review along the way. I know I can find worksheets online to review past concepts, but I wonder if there is something already packaged that would be easier. Not something to complete in its entirety but something to pick hit or miss problems to review that may cover concepts in a similar sequence as BA. Anyone done something similar? Jackie
Not that I've found. Nothing addresses the concepts in the same way. I do use Kumon workbooks as a supplement for more practice with basic operations. And I've used a few things just for more variety. Out of those, Zaccaro's Primary Grade Challenge Math would have been the easiest to use as a more conceptual supplement to Beast.
desertflower
Not that I found either. I'm using BA as a spine as well and supplementing with SM. I just browse through SM to make sure that he isn't missing anything. I also use other types of books for fun like the Zaccaro one.
deerforest
We used it as our primary and just supplemented with a varied assortment of whatever we needed.
mamaraby
It looks like BA Online is supposed to do what you're looking for. They're saying 2018 for its estimated available date. I knw that probably isn't super helpful for your current needs, but wanted to put it out there.
rebcoola
We use prodigy online it will place them or you can go in and tell it to do certain types of problems.
Targhee
We used DreamBox for review/extra practice.
SoCal_Bear
Perhaps SM Intensive Practice Books and Challenging Word Problems. If I was doing BA as a spine and wanted to supplement for review, that's the way I would go. If you were looking for even more problem solving type problems. Zaccaro or Borac would be good. Farrar
I would just pair it with something else - either something easy like Khan or Xtramath for basic, basic drills and keeping up practice or something like Singapore IP/CWP/Fan Math for just more challenge and a look at the concepts in a different way. Marciaagar
Thanks for all the ideas! Many of these I had not heard about before!
mamamoose
I really like reflex math for math facts. And if there is a particular area he needs help in, Math Mammoth sells subject workbooks pretty cheap and they are digital so you can use and re-use them. We use MM along with BA because I bought the entire package.
Cake and Pi
Math Minutes are a nice quick review for computations without any fancy word problems. You'd want 6th grade Math Minutes with BA 5. I have occasionally printed out the placement tests and used them a couple of books behind to verify that concepts are sticking.
AdventuresinHomeschooling
We are planning on doing just Beast Academy next year to prepare for AOPS, and we will supplement with Khan Academy, and possibly some Kumon workbooks. I have XtraMath and Right Start games to keep his math fact memory sharp.
KSinNS
So at least though the end of 4 there is a fair bit of review built in to BA. It just doesn't say review at the top of the page :-}. They put things in here and there in problems, especially towards the end of the chapters. I have supplemented along the way with extra drill using MUS (effective but expensive) and just making up problems on a whiteboard (cheap and efficient, but needs me). I'm probably going to supplement with some MM multiplication work sheets for my next kid when she gets to BA 3. My kids certainly need some more procedural drill than the beast gives them, but once they get it, they get it.
