Good morning and Welcome to the Lounge!

For some of you the school year is almost over, for some it IS over, and for some of us, it continues with no end in sight.

That's part of the reason for today's theme.

Another part comes from my thinking I fit into a group (online, for a year or so) only to be told recently (in so many words)

that I don't know what I'm talking about and don't fit in. It's been a LOOONNGG time since I've had that particular experience.

And it doesn't feel much different now. *sigh*

However, I know I can come into the Lounge and be among friends, whether or not we agree on things, so thank you for that!  :hurray:

Anyone else experiencing *sigh* moments this week? Here: see above.

Anyone planning summer activities for you and/or your kids/family? Here: ds starts swim team in about a week and a half. That's four times a week, plus he'll be doing Discovery Guard (a pre-lifeguard training class) twice a week, so he'll basically be at the pool at least 6x/week.  DD and I will be

doing lap swim 2-3 times a week once the community pool opens. Come August the kids will resume horsemanship and tae kwon do.

Way OT (off topic): Have any of you been sipping on your drink for awhile only to have the taste change halfway through? Here: it happened the other day and just now with my coffee. SO weird!

Talk to me! :bigear:

That's really sucky, scrap.  I'm sorry you've had that experience.  People can be so mean.

We finish school tomorrow.  Adrian finished today.  He saw he only had a little more to finish tomorrow and asked if he could do it all.  Since he had so little to do I didn't bother giving him Adderall so it was amusing watching him while he did his work.  He was motivated to get it done so he focused as best he could unmedicated, but he kept popping up and walking around the table and coming up with stuff he absolutely had to tell me and couldn't do anything else until he had told me.  Even so, he finished the last 8 pages of Explode the Code 7 and the last lesson of First Language Lessons 3 in about 45 minutes, so it wasn't horrible.  He insists he is not done with school for the year because he will be doing school again before 2017 ends.  He also insists it is not summer break because he knows his birthday is in the spring and that not until the middle of next month.  So he settled on season.  He is done school for the season and is now off for season break.  He makes me laugh so much.

Sigh moments: Not really... I've just been sick.  At least the antibiotics are doing their job and I now just feel like I have a nasty head cold.  It wasn't until a couple days in to the antibiotics that I realized just how tight my chest was.  No wonder the doctor repeatedly several times that if I got a high fever or felt worse or tight in my chest to return immediately.  I have a history of bronchitis going into pneumonia.  I finally caught it early enough this time!

Summer activities: Fritz is on the swim team.  They've finished two weeks and have 5 more to go.  He takes swimming lessons every summer in a friend's backyard pool (her daughters are competitive swimmers and teach the lessons).  This'll be the fourth summer he's done this.  The first year he went from not knowing how to swim at all to swimming across the pool.  They do a half hour every day 5 days a week and it's one or two-on-one for beginners and two or three-on-one for stroke development.  Fritz'll be doing two weeks and Adrian one week in July.  In a couple weeks we're going to Houston for a Markiplier show.  He's a youtuber the kids like.  Ani and the little guys are going.  That's the littles birthday presents.  Jamie, Cameron, and I will figure out something to do while we're there.  We've never been to Houston (Jamie has for work).  Cameron's testing for his second degree black belt on the 17th of June.

Taste change: Yes.  It's weird.  It's only happened a couple times ever that I can remember.

This whole week has been one long sigh so far.

My summer is boring. Touts tuus for a week for the kids. Sewing classes for another week. Some random fun planned through out, like fair days or going to the lake and such. I'm going for the cheap and nap filled type of summer.

The half way and the flavor changes means my drink either wasn't hot enough or cold enough anymore. The temp changes the flavor to me. Dh says I'm nuts. But he drinks Mountain Dew pop and he drinks it at room temp, so his opinion on nuts is either questionable or authoritive.

ETA: we are schooling through the summer bc they took plenty of maternity leave they have to make up for.

You are my people! I chuckled a couple of times in solidarity while I read through your posts. Thank you!

Murph, I get it. My dh thinks generic Mt. Dew and real Mt. Dew taste the same. Um, no, they do not.

And as for the continuing schooling, while there was no maternity leave here, we had plenty (way too many?) breaks,

so through the summer we go. For the most part I like that because that allows us to take breaks throughout the year when

needed. However, in my desire to have dd to finally graduate by next Spring, the 2017-2018 school year WILL end in May 2018!!!

I've had a lot of 'sign' moments lately. Isn't homeschooling teens supposed to be easier than homeschooling little guys? Where did I pick up this lie?

Summer plans:

Dd will hopefully be away for 6 weeks on a work language exchange, and we'll host a student for those 6 weeks.

Ds 15 taking a grade 12 chemistry summer course for 4 weeks. Continuing his tennis racquet stringing business.

Ds 13 of on a 2 week Army Cadets basic summer training course in Aug. Otherwise spending the days bugging his brothers.

Ds 11 spending his days bugging his brothers.

Me: Away from the house as much as possible playing tennis, cycling, hiking, etc. I may bring along a child or two, if they don't bug me too much.

Drink:  I slug my coffee down fast, and it all tastes great! Tea flavour may change, especially if it gets cold when I forget to drink it. ;)

I'm pretty sure you didn't volunteer to spend time with this on-line group so that they could turn nasty on you. Time to get out of it and find some other place to put your amazing talents and energy.  :grouphug:

I went back and looked and I've been part of said group for over two years now.

I really don't know what happened. Recently, i've tried to be supportive and encouraging to some

of them in regards to what they've been going through, only to be told that I basically have no idea what I'm talking about.

You may be right, wintermom. Time to move on, perhaps. *sigh*

Well, on that note, I should go try to figure out my OWN study schedule. Oi!

I've had a few sigh moments this week. I realized I should not take the summer class I wanted to because there are things I'm already not on top of. I set myself a goal to get on top of those before I take that class. Most of the other sigh moments are normal things that are being magnified by hormones and really don't need to be sigh moments. It's so fun to be in my 40s! (Actually, there are more pluses than minuses to that.)

Summer. Summer will be busy at the start and then settle down. We go to another state to see family and celebrate niece's graduation. As soon as we get back there's Totus Tuus for some and an internship for one. Other than that, 1 may do an art camp but mostly we will be swimming, cleaning out the house and hanging around. I will probably go to a PT I know who also does personal training. I'm dealing with a pain issue that I think can be improved with more concentrated work.

I have noticed that sometimes my drink changes taste. I agree with Murphy that it is temperature related.

Yes, I'm having *sigh* kind of day here, too. It's been raining nonstop for three days, that probably has something to do with it. And I overdid it at the gym and can barely walk because I'm so sore. So I'm feeling melancholy over things I normally don't worry too much about, like the fact that we've been without a church home for almost 5 years now and there's no indication we'll find one anytime soon. It's really hard when you don't fit in anywhere.

On the bright side, we are wrapping up school this week -- well, if dd will stop dragging her feet and just FINISH already! We joined the local pool so we'll be spending a lot of days there, with one or two family vacations thrown in.

Sorry people were mean to you, Scrap. Ditch 'em and move on.

We have switched to summer school - just math, writing, Latin for Dd, and lots of reading. Lots of history reading. Piano lessons every other week. My ds would forget all his math if we took a long break. Btdt - never again. Both my kids need to finish the math book and we all do better with some structure to our days.

Summer activities. VBS. Swim team and Scout camp for Ds. Mission trip and working on AHG badges for Dd. Both kids will have several fun activites through church, scouts or friends. Skate night, canoe trip, pool parties etc. We will probably go to a minor league baseball game and maybe do some fun stuff at the Nature Center. Our summers are not any less busy than the school year, just different things and less routine.

Lots of sigh experiences lately. Mostly having to do with my mom's declining health and our finances. No mean people recently. Just life in a fallen world.

Baking cake with Dd this afternoon for her party tomorrow. :)

I'm sorry you were treated that way, Scrap!

Butter, hope you continue to improve and avoid the chest stuff!

Peachy, hope you have brighter days soon!

I can't think of any *sigh* moments this week. We are still doing school but fewer subjects. Ds will take a standardized test next week. We'll officially be done with our school year, but he has to do algebra and Spanish through the summer.

Summer Plans:

Ds is the busiest. He's on the swim team practicing 3 nights a week, and he can start mornings next week or the first of June. He goes to a Christian camp with friends from another church in June, and he goes on a week long in-state mission trip with his drama team in late June.

Dh might be teaching summer school, but it depends on the number of students taking it. He wants to go up to stay with his mom on Father's Day and be with her for the one year anniversary of his dad's death.

Dd got a job working 25-27 hours a week, usually over 5 days. She would like to get a few days off in a row and go to TN to see some friends.

I've got school planning to do. I hope to clean out the house quite a bit and get it better organized. I am going to TN in June to a 50th anniversary celebration for a couple I grew up close to. While we are there, my sisters and I will celebrate my younger sister's birthday. She is the one who lost her son in February.

Dh and I hope to go away for a couple days during one of ds' trips.

As far as the drink, I'm not sure I've ever noticed a drastic change in how something tastes. Something hot cooling off always makes it taste slightly different to me.

So I've noticed a couple of you mention "Totus Tuus." What is that exactly?

It's all day for a week summer program in catholic parishes. More educational than VBS more fun than Sunday school (RE).

My over 18 kid makes a decent sum traveling from parish to parish with the leadership/teaching teams in Totus Tuus. My younger ones receive the program during the day while my middlers but not 18 yet kids volunteer to help that week. Then in the evening, my younger ones come home and my middlers receive their own program.

It's a great program they all look forward to every summer.

I was reading to my Aspie girl (who knows and can see she's an Aspie) the forum/post in question

and she even said to the responses on to my comments, "That's not  what you said!"

Ah, well, life just IS sometimes. Moving right along . . .

Now I need to decide whether or not actually AM going to purchase a set of Bundles in the BYB Sale.

thought I was and now not sure.

I've never heard of them, but they sound great. Is this an American movement/program? The name sounds more Latin, though. ;)

I've been through a Cursillo course, and the Canadian Christian Outreach (CCO) have programs for Catholic youth and adults. Is there a website for Totus Tuus?

Latin for "totally yours" and yes, it's based in the United States. I'm "meh" about the outcome of RE and VBS, but Totus Tuus is excellent so far. And there's some evidence it's the cause of renewed interest in religious life for young people too.

I'm not in Denver but their diocese put out a good description about it.

We're being forced to move by the end of this month. The sighs are the least of it - the crying fits are much worse. I'm not even sure I can count myself as much of a teacher today. So far we've learned about the color wheel, the kids have played outside (and Broccoli played with the faucet and got wet, despite me telling him he wasn't allowed to - he claims he hadn't heard me), and now they're on their second Fievel movie. I might get them to do some Rosetta Stone and Khan Academy (Celery) or Rosetta Stone and Mathseeds (Broccoli) later (yes, more Mathseeds, because they gave me another free 4 week trial extension - what can I say... I'm not going to say 'no' to that just before a move).

Summer - I think I might sign the kids up for day camp at the botanical gardens, since we're moving much closer and it looks neat to me (half the day is botany, the other half of the day is arts). I'm also thinking of maybe taking the kids blueberry or other fruit picking, and going to the Lockport caves, and who knows what. We'd planned on going camping this summer, but I don't know if I have that in me after this move (aside from the cost of moving), so, we'll see... originally, the plan was to maybe drive south to catch the solar eclipse, but I'm really not seeing that right now.

Beverages only change flavor if they haven't been stirred well, ime.

Sorry you're being forced out, luuknam, but hopefully many blessings will come of it!

In about two minutes, headed out the door with dd for some economic (business) lessons. And possibly to pick

up some groceries. I could use a soda!

As for my beverage issue this morning, it was coffee, and it had been mixed just fine. Just found it weird.

Why, oh, why do I only find "the lounge" at the end of the day?  I look for it, but you are all so elusive.

Scrap,  I am so sorry these people are being so mean.  You guys are my peeps, too.  I don't have all that many real-life peeps right now.  I'm working on cherishing what I do have and letting go of what I don't.  Yeah, that is me today.  Tomorrow, the depression "Svengali" may retake control of my brain and my emotions again and I'll be all "boo hoo" again.

Anyone else experiencing *sigh* moments this week? Not really "sign" moments, but moments of fear and anguish, followed by the ephoria and exaustion of relief.  The roller coaster of a loved one with mental illness is no picnic.  Things are better today with K, but it was an ugly day yesterday ... their 21st birthday, which they did not want to celebrate and became outright hostile when I asked if there was something special they wanted for dinner.  They did apologize (progress!!!) and are planning on getting up earlier than usual so that I can take them to the t-Mobile store to switch back to our family plan now that they are not living in a part of the country not well-served by this carrier.  And they can do that with their new phone that we got them for their birthday, but we couldn't call it a birthday present.  So, I guess, my sigh moment was the realization that I could not mark this important milestone.

Anyone planning summer activities for you and/or your kids/family? Nothing new with my oldest.  K does have a job interview in a couple of weeks which is a very positive development.    Dd is a whirlwind of activity this summer.  She will be finishing Algebra 2 and taking an online Geometry class simultaneously.  She also has some summer reading/essays for her AP Language class and 3 art projects for AP Studio Art 2D.  Plus college application essays.  Plus a few 4-H projects to finish for Fair at the end of July.  Plus, rock climbing team training 3 days a week.  Most of our summer activities revolve around traveling to her competitions and a few outdoor climbing excursions.  I'm hoping that dh can come to her next competition in June in Minneapolis.  Nationals is in July in "Hotlanta" and she has a good shot at making that.  Dh and I might try to get away for a couple of days for our anniversary.

Way OT (off topic): Have any of you been sipping on your drink for awhile only to have the taste change halfway through? That happened with my freshly brewed iced tea.  Halfway through, it tasted very bitter.  If it had been a regular glass, I would have assumed that the ice at the top had diluted it, but I was drinking with a straw.  No idea why.
