vonfirmath
My son wants to learn about church history. Any recommended resources at the 5th grade level. (He can read above his level, but he hates to write so the church history notebooks by Danika Cooley are not quite the right age for him yet) I kind of like the church history I'm seeing in Remember the Ages (BiblioPlan) but its intermixed with the history so would need to be pulled out. Another option might be a missionaries book that covers a lot of missionaries in one book. (We have a few books about missionaries, but buying them one at a time is getting expensive and our library does not have them) and reading the Bruce Shelley book when he's ready to handle it. (We have that one already because I used it in a church history class I took -- about 10 years ago now) Edited May 24, 2017 by vonfirmath
laughing lioness
We read the History of Christianity outloud last year and did the Memoria Press study guide that went along with. Very interesting and informative!

SebastianCat
Heroes of the Faith by Gene Fedele The Story of Christianity: 2000 Years of Faith by Michael Collins and Matthew A. Price The 100 Most Important Events in Christian History by A. Kenneth Curtis, J. Stephen Lang, & Randy Petersen For a 5th grader, I'd choose one of these books before Shelley's Church History in Plain Language, which I'd probably save until high school. The Story of Christianity is a DK book, and it contains lots of pictures, so it would be the most visually interesting to a 10 or 11 year old. Heroes of the Faith is a collection of short bios of church leaders and missionaries.
Bluegoat
I've had a hard time coming up with something to accomplish this. What I've done in the end is looked at overviews of lives of the saints, particularly ones of a particular region, and also general history of the regions. The better lives give some sense of the issues in the Church in that time and place. For example, we read about Athanasius and that provided a good introduction to the Arian controversy and the creed. I'd be all over it if I could find a good narrative history for that age group!

Hunter
Teaching with God's Heart for the World is now free. http://harvestministry.org/twghw it is a full curriculum for 1 or 2 years based on the history of world missions. There is a lot of good stuff tucked away in these pdfs. Sometimes with the names you can google the people online. Olive Tree has some free biography ebooks. I'm not sure if the filtering works for this link. if not try "all ebook" and click "free". The free biographies do not show up under "biography". https://www.olivetree.com/store/home.php?cat=269&language=0&sort=title_popular&free=on
Hunter
Yesterday's Classics lists some vintage church history titles that you can find for free elsewhere. http://www.yesterdaysclassics.com/catalog/displaycatalog.php?catalog=faith Volume 2 lists a retelling of Josephus and a biography of Luther. http://www.yesterdaysclassics.com/o/treasury2/offer.php Heritage History has a Christian Heroes list. Again, you can usually find these for free elsewhere. http://www.heritage-history.com/index.php?c=library#christian Edited May 25, 2017 by Hunter
