Generic toner ???

Quick Q as I'm doing a lot of printing these days...

Is it safe and worthwhile to buy generic toner or do you stick with the genuine stuff?

My last toner cartridge lasted a lot less time than I expected though I guess I've done a fair bit of printing.

I don't think all printers will let you use generics. But mine does, and I've had a mixed bag with generic toners. Sometimes i get batches where every new cartridge has to be "cleaned" tons of times after initial installation to print properly. I've had batches where they worked just as well as the manufacturers. This last round of generics was so frustrating I started to dread changing the cartridges. I purchased the printer's manufacturer. cartridges out of frustration. But it saves a lot of money, so I am sure I'll go back to generics.

We also buy from reputable Ebay sellers.

Usually there's a short refund period, so if you get a bad cartridge & it's within a month or so of purchase, they'll usually just send you another one.

It's so much cheaper than the brand name ones, that you can probably have a 50% success rate & still be saving money!

The seller I use mails them "fast & free", so we get them in just a few days.

There are ways to refill them yourself, but I'm not that adventurous.  There are youtube how-tos that demonstrate for your specific cartridge.

Yeah we had trouble with the old inkjet that's why I wondered. but we had the genuine which is supposedly good for 1200 pages and it would be lucky to have made 600 pages. I know it's probably 1200 draft pages but still want to be able to print cheaper.

The difference between genuine and generic is $80 to $35 from the same supplier!

I bought a box of replacement (non OEM cartridges) from a reputable Amazon Seller for our Epson C82 Ink Jet printer, when I could not find the OEM cartridges here. As I recall, there was a box of about 12 cartridges, in the 4 colors and the majority of them worked properly when installed.   Now, we have another Epson Ink Jet, this one is a very low cost printer.  My wife bought another one, to give as a gift, when she bought this one. The person who received the other printer does a lot more printing than we do. She has one of those tanks (I forget what those are called) with the 4 ink colors attached to the side of her printer. As far as I know there are no problems with that. My fear with these Epson printers is that Epson stops making cartridges for them to get everyone to buy a new printer.  That's what they did with the C82 cartridges some years ago.
