Just for fun - what food(s) do your college kids request when they come home?

Do you have any homemade specialities or regional fare that your kids specifically ask for when they are home from college?

My ds usually requests regional (Southern) food. Black-eyed peas, collard greens, cornbread, etc. He will also sometimes request "something fried," which I don't do, so that usually means a trip to a local catfish place. He also likes my peanut butter pie. :)

Mom's tacos. Apparently the tacos in Ohio are, to quote, "garbage". Imagine that. Lol

And I find it quite humorous considering that I don't have a drop of Hispanic/Latina blood in my body. I'm as Anglo/Gringo as they come. But I guess that good Tex-Mex cookin' has rubbed off on me after living in Texas for so many years.

Grilled anything that is decent quality, fresh fruits and vegetables.

They miss quality...Aramark has taught them the importance of grades in meat and proper storage of produce.

Mine don't request anything but they get excited about my pizza (breadmaker crust), oatmeal bread(niiiice breadmaker), homemade mac and cheese, and fish in all forms. We eat a lot of fish - chowder, baked, raw in sushi, smoked with goat cheese... Now I am hungry.

Ds always wants BBQ. I have a big green egg and he particularly loves bbq ribs. He really likes the food at his school, but they don't do BBQ.

Dd is a vegetarian. She requests homemade mac and cheese, but mostly is just happy to have a well stocked kitchen so she can fix healthy food. She wasn't at all impressed with school food and is very glad to be home with a kitchen.

They're both moving into apartments next year and I'm curious how that will change things.

DD wants to go shopping, buy lots of vegetables and interesting cuts of meat, and have free run of the kitchen to cook.

She is living with a vegetarian room mate and has a vegan boy friend, so the last two visits home involved meat dishes she would nto cook in her apartment.

I agree. Ohio tacos are garbage.

EXCEPT...

Not sure where you are in Ohio, but Los Guachos in Columbus are actually real, authentic, and wonderful. I am from Chicago. I am used to the real deal from the awesome urban melting pot of Chicago's neighborhoods, and I promise, Los Guachos are it.

He can come home any day because we now live literally right across the street from his campus. But, I always have avocado, bacon, eggs, sourdough bread and sometimes a few Lindt truffles hiding in the cupboard. :)

Velvet Taco in Chicago is the best! And they play great music to boot. That is, music from the 80s. ðŸ˜
