MerryAtHope
So, as we were sitting around talking tonight about graduation & diplomas etc..., the kids asked what we would do about their transcripts if we had a fire. I'm thinking, major computer crash could be a more likely scenario, but in any event, it did make me wonder if we should create some kind of back-up system (they suggested putting it on a flash drive and sending to Grandma). Do you have a back-up? What's a good way of storing this kind of documentation since we are the school administrators?
Guest
I'd say to store it on the cloud somewhere.
Jane Elliot
I just e-mail them to myself.
elegantlion
I have a small fireproof safe, guess that is one more document I should store in there, probably should make a copy of the diploma too. I would also email and store in the cloud. Another option might be to contact colleges where transcripts were sent to see if they could send you a copy.

Hilltopmom
I was just thinking about this, going to store a copy at my moms house, in her files. I do have copies on a flash drive too, plus keep a print copy in my filing cabinet. Fwiw, the people I know who have had house fires, they never found or were unable to recover those little fire proof safes. We have one too, but I aways tell Ds they are not guaranteed. Ann.without.an.e
I have a back up flash drive in a safe.
regentrude
I have a complete back-up of my computer on an external storage hard drive in the house, and a complete copy on a hard drive in the safety deposit box in the bank. Nowadays it is really easy to have a backup in cloud storage, but I would not want to rely on that alone. daijobu
If you have a google account you can upload docs and pdfs to their Drive. I keep a lot of homeschooling materials on the Drive so I can access it from any computer. And it's easy to share links to documents and collaborate.
learners4life
Lol, I put a copy almost everywhere: external hard drive, the cloud, flash drive, and a hard copy in the fireproof safe (which is so stuffed full with documents, photos, etc that I have to pick and choose what to add). Jane's idea of emailing it is a good idea - I have an archive sub-folder for stuff like tha, but didn't think to do it with the transcript. Bummer on the fire safes. I guess I won't rely upon that so much in the future. I had gone as far as to tape the combination to the top with a note saying there was nothing of value so that a couple of thieves couldn't run off with it.)
