HollyDay
Today was our last day of homeschool. Dd took her calculus final this morning and that was that. I closed out the logbook. Put the books away. Her co op graduation is next week. I'm a bit sad. A bit nostalgic. I'll miss homeschool more than I can express.

GinaPagnato
I'm not there yet, but it'll be here soon. I can't even imagine how I'll feel. Probably a huge mix of happy and sad, and wonderment at what we accomplished together. Well done, mama. Well done. :hurray: :grouphug:
clementine
I'm there too. Reality hasn't totally hit me. I will miss it terribly.
Guest
I have one more year, and I think that I won't miss the academic part at all; I'll miss the togetherness part.

Anne in CA
One of the hardest things in life has been walking away from my identity has a home school mom and being me again. I was really doing well as a home school mom, and figuring it out all over has been really rough. Not to mention that I miss cozy mornings with read alouds and silly questions and math fact bingo...
marbel
I'll be retiring as a homeschool mom this week. It is indeed a bittersweet time. My 2nd child was very difficult to homeschool so I am feeling a lot of relief. On the other hand, there are so many things I would still love to share with my kids. And there are new Great Courses coming out all the time... and new curriculum... :-) And, I don't know what to do next. I feel the need to get a job, but I haven't worked for 20 years, and I'm 61 years old! I do not want to tutor or substitute teach. Actually, I don't want to work at all. But, we could use some more income. Interesting timing: next month our public library is having a seminar on finding employment after age 50. I'm signed up. Till then, I'm going to clean my house.

Guest
Congratulations! And yes it is bittersweet. But it's been kinda sweet to move on, too. Good job, Mom.
quark
Congrats all! Tomorrow is my last day. But the Great Courses binge will continue. 😊 We enjoy it too much to let it go. I think many of us will remain homeschoolers at heart. Hugs!
KungFuPanda
You guys are my heroes. I admire that you've held on to that energy and enthusiasm. I'm limping into the finish. 15 years down and two to go. I think I can . . .

MEmama
We are wrapping up this week, then DS is off to public high school. We are all excited for this next chapter; it's the right time for sure. Congrats to everyone who is finally finished! :)
Night Elf
I stopped homeschooling in 2015 and I still miss it tremendously, especially the early years. I graduated two and the youngest went to public high school.
DawnM
Hugs. I technically stopped homeschooling in May of 2016, but in theory I stopped May of 2015. My one child who was still HSing a year ago, pretty much did all the work on his own. I didn't directly teach at all. I thought I would miss it. I haven't. At all. Maybe it is because I am a teacher and currently working in a school teaching, so I am not finished teaching? Or maybe it is because I was never a die hard HS mom? Or maybe it is because I had a very challenging special needs son who made it difficult? I don't know.

Nan in Mass
Never say never. I went through a review of trig with my middle one so he could retake a college class more successfully lol. : ) Nan

dirty ethel rackham
Congratulations ... to your dd and to you. I was reluctant to open this thread as I, too, am just about at the end of my homeschool journey. Dd will be in high school full time next year so my last responsibility and am very sad about it. All I have left is this summer and my role as cou sel or for the college application process. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up and am realizing that going back to school just isn't financially feasible if we want to help our kids through college with a minimum of debt. Lady Florida.
Congratulations! It is bittersweet, I'll agree. For me it was rather anti-climactic. Ds started taking dual enrollment classes in his junior year and I backed off of actual homeschooling gradually as he started relying more on the community college than he did on me. We did send graduation announcements to family, mostly because they don't quite understand that you can actually graduate from homeschool, but there was no offical end to it. I'm not sure if that lack of closure was easier or harder on me. He graduated in May 2016 and I'm still processing it. :)
Hilltopmom
I'm almost there. Oldest will be a senior next year, but taking everything DE except online math, so, I'm really just driving him places, not technically schooling him at all :) Next teen is heading to public school to make use of special Ed instruction & vo tech classes. Little one is starting preschool & I plan to send her to ps K the following fall. The toddler has a few years & then he'll follow her to school. I'll probably go back to teaching, the kind they used to pay me for ;)
speedmom4
Congratulations and condolences! My youngest will be a sophomore this coming fall and I keep thinking about how little time we have left. I have two in college, who were both homeschooled all the way. I have two high schoolers. I'm enjoying this season so much! I wish it could last but change is just around the corner. HollyDay
Our co-op has an annual book sale and this year I took up 2 tables! And I didn't take all our books!! Today was set up day. The sale starts tomorrow but we could look around today after we were done setting up our tables. I started browsing and realized I wouldn't be buying any curriculum. I felt such a pang of sadness for a brief moment. I looked at the other tables and started seeing so many books we used as well along the way. Books we loved. Books that were not a great fit and we changed directions. It was bittersweet and amazing. I'll go back on Thursday to pick up my leftover books. And it will be a wonderful, bittersweet moment again. goldberry
My only is graduating on Friday.. she was in dual enrollment this year, so "technically" I finished HS last year, but... wow. Bittersweet, yes. Transitions are hard. :grouphug:
