I told my husband last night

That I'm all about him having his own opinions and likes regarding fashion, but to please never wear this.  I forbid it...  Just..no.   (They featured this on the local mainstream news.  I'm terrified.)

It is a part of our culture's push for male clothing to look gender neutral.  Have you seen the guy's section in department stores lately?  My boys don't like to dress feminine and sometimes it seems hard to find things that aren't.

The only place you might see that in Texas is maybe Austin... and that's a big maybe. I can guarantee you it'll never hit the shelves here. Gag-worthy.

They're silly and we so rarely see a silly trend in menswear. Besides, there is nothing feminine at all with the 3rd guy down in that blue romper. Plus, they're not even being sold out in public yet, are they? Still Kickstarter?

I have no idea where you live or shop Attolia, but I just started wandering over to the big boys section in the department stores and most the clothes are sad and boring. T-shirts in boring shades of boring with surfboards and dogs and neutral colored shorts. If males in my house want anything with color in it, I have to stalk Ralph Lauren for sales!

Okay, I have a thought...

This could potentially be salvageable if the intention is to use the shorts portion of the romper as boxers and you wear it inside jeans. Then it would look like you have a tucked in shirt that won't billow or untuck along with some boxers.

But that's not what I'm seeing in these pictures.

Um, where are you finding clothes you consider feminine? And what do you consider feminine?

I've got 18, 10, and 6yo boys and a husband turning 40.  That has not been an issue in my shopping experience.

I was curious about this, so I just went to the Old Navy page, clicked on "Men," and looked at what came up on the main page. Among the more traditional offerings, I see some tight, palm frond print pants. They do seem feminine to me. There's also a pink button down shirt, but that just says 80's.  :coolgleamA:

I also found these floral print shirts, here and here.

Regarding the rompers, I'll paraphrase Firefly: "Man walks down the street in that romper, people know he's not afraid of anything."  :)

Okay, I'll give you that those pants are just hideous.  (To be fair, I think the legging prints that are trending for women these days are also hideous. Though I do have two to wear around the house, lol. I haven't given thought to a gender aspect.)

My 10yo son and 70-something yo FIL like pink shirts.  One of them has been wearing them for decades.  ;)

For better or worse Austin has changed in recent times as more and more people move in. Sadly, I doubt even Leslie (RIP) would find Austin as welcoming these days.

So, I'm not certain these rompers would be seen in public. Apparently, Austin's weirdness is struggling these days.

Wait, what's so feminine in the men's section that it's hard to shop? I was just there and I saw the usual sea of blues, grays, and khaki. Is it the occasional pastel shirt that's offensive. I doubt those romper a will catch on. I think we're all seeing them because they're so ridiculous.

My DD and DS, both young adults, think it's weird that I think romp-hims look silly!

Eta: they tell me that it's just the group shot that makes it look silly. After seeing the guy in dark blue they might be right!

I could get behind the coulottes before I could get behind the rompers.

But seriously, what is wrong with a good pair of blue jeans, boots, and a t-shirt, fer cryin' out loud?

You are right to put your foot down, Sparkly. My husband is under the same orders. ;)

We actually saw one on a college guy last night. We couldn't quite decide if it was a romper or shorts overalls but either way it was definitely wrong. So for everyone wondering where men might wear these in public, small town Maine, apparently! Lol

Oh, please be wrong about small town Maine! :scared:

Please.

( I actually *can* picture one of my sons' friends wearing one of these just be goofy.  He's that type to love the shock factor!)

Neither of my guys would wear them but if I saw someone wearing it on the street I wouldn't give it a second thought. It's the same coverage as a shirt and shorts. And it's no odder than a man in a utilikilt. Or the guy I see at the college who wears flowing coullotes. (It wasn't the length that caught my eye but the flowing lines).

Sorry for the bad news! Nowhere is safe from questionable fashion choices, apparently...

How is this gender neutral though?  My husband said so what is this...a onesie for an adult?

Just last night DH mentioned he actually hates jeans and we were trying to think of an alternative that would be the same amount of casual. DD and I were kind of shocked that he hates jeans.

I think they are silly period. Gals or Guys. It's hard to pee in them.

But I don't really care who wears them.

Apparently it's very easy to pee in a romphim due to a zipper fly.  The story is this group of business students were sitting around talking and their female friend loves rompers and how comfortable they are and one of them said he wished he could wear rompers and... this happened.  She's jealous that they can pee easily in their romphims, but she still cannot in her rompers.

If they start popping up in stores, women who don't fit the traditional sizing (torso length) of a women's romper can try out the men's sizing.

They actually say that hard to size women may want to consider buying a romphim.  If that woman actually wanted to wear a romper that is.

It's quite a popular kickstarter.  Within hours they had met their goal and then some.  https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/106904571/the-romphimtm-your-new-favorite-summer-outfit  I highly recommend NOT watching the video.  I am scarred for life.

Both DH and DS hate jeans.

I didn't get it until I discovered leggings...:)

My oldest son hates jeans, too.  He prefers scrub pants.  I buy them from Amazon for him in all sorts of colors.  He loves them.

Oh, I really have no idea what those are    I'm just saying that they are being marketed to men but the overall look is feminine.  I see stuff like that in the women's section right now.

Oh. My. Goodness. It just screams 80s to me to be honest. I think paired with some haurache sandals and maybe throw a blazer over it with the sleeves rolled up and we are there. When I opened the link my musical brain started playing "wake me up, before you go go" :)
