mirabillis
My ds is in his last class today, Alg II. And he's all smiles. Smiles! For a math class! He adores Mr. Reini. He's funny, he's goofy, he sometimes starts out by playing fun theme songs. He makes math fun! Highly recommend him for any courses at WHA (Wilson Hill)! (My ds is super mathy - fwiw.) **speaking of Mr. Reini - anyone take AP Stats with him? How was it? AFwife Claire
SO good to hear!! We're signed up with him for algebra 2 next year. I hope I'll be posting something similar at the end of next year! :)
BlessedMom
So glad to hear your ds enjoys the class so much!! We are considering it for the fall. Thanks for sharing!!
dereksurfs
Very glad to hear it Mirabillis. I'm glad your son enjoyed math this year with Mr. Reini. Our son will be finishing up WHA next year with AP Calculus taught by Anne Stublen who has been fantastic for us well. :) :D
fourisenough
So glad to hear this. My DD's section of Algebra 1 scheduled to be taught by Mrs. Smith has been cancelled for next year and now all sections of Algebra 1 will be taught by Mr. Reini. Sounds like we're in good (and fun!) hands.

So you'll definitely be in great hands!
jjeepa
Good to know! My dd is signed up for Algebra 2 next year with Mr. Reini. It's been a good year in Geometry with Mrs. Smith.
fourisenough
Do we know why the switch? We're taking Geometry with Mrs. Smith next year. This was the body of the e-mail we received from Mr. Donaldson notifying us of the change: "Every year we do our best to project enrollment demand and arrange our schedule so that the students in all time zones have appropriate options at each grade level. Unfortunately, we do not always “get it rightâ€. And in the case of Algebra 1 this year, we definitely got it wrong. We have two very full sections and two with very few enrollments. This usually indicates that we have unwittingly created scheduling conflicts. Based on current course demand, we are going to have to reduce the number of sections offered for both Algebra 1 and Algebra 2, and also rework the schedule somewhat in the hopes that we can choose times that are more popular. Unfortunately, that also means that we will be canceling two sections of Algebra 1, which is why you are receiving this email. Mrs. Smith is an excellent teacher who is in high demand for her Geometry and Pre-Calculus sections, so we are allowing her to focus there. That means canceling her two Algebra 1 sections (T/T 8:00 and M/W 12:30). Meanwhile, with Mr. Reini giving up one of his Algebra 2 sections, there is room in his schedule to add a third Algebra 1. The result is that we have the following Algebra 1 sections available, all taught by Mr. Reini: M/W 9:30 (currently full, but we expect some people to move to the new section) M/W 11:00 (a new section that just opened) T/T 2:00 (several spots still available) Please let us know if you are able to move to one of these other sections. We would be happy to work with you on an individual basis to help make your schedule work with these new options. And we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this causes you. Thank you for your confidence in Wilson Hill Academy and for your patience." I thought it was handled well and will happily move into a different section. I've never heard a bad thing about a single math teacher at WHA; they all sound top-notch.
Omma
Thanks for sharing...good to know how WHA deals with scheduling issues like this and glad to hear all is well with Mrs. Smith! :)
SoCal_Bear
I really hope that WHA does more PST time friendly sections and offers MW sections for more of their classes. Quite a number of of the grammar and logic stage are only TuTh. I will keep my eye on their scheduling patterns for the future. SoCal_Bear
LOL...while I could get mine up at 8 am. He is not coherent until 9 am. So, I only look at anything 12 or later.
rdj2027
Oh yes, more times that accommodate western pacific or world wide students would be awesome. My son's calc lectures next year will be at 4:30 a.m. next year - until the time change, then they will be at 3:30 a.m. Chemistry for my other one will be at 6:30 and 5:30 respectively. I have to say one thing I really like about WTMA is the delayed lecture option.

We took a 7am (10am EST) MW class with WTMA this year. Ds managed - but definitely was pushing the envelope on respectability. LOL! Good to have the class out of the way by 8am though...

YaelAldrich
Everyone says such positive things about this instructor. I see that WHA is a Christian school. Do they allow non-Christians? How involved is religion in the math courses?

How involved is religion in the math courses? Hi YaelAldrich, Yes, WHA is a Christian school. However, all are welcome to attend regardless of religious backgrounds. Many who are not Christian have asked similar questions on this forum. I think you will find that the vast majority, if not all, discovered it to be a non-issue, especially for math courses. If you are ok knowing it is a Christian school which starts most classes with a prayer and may occasionally make reference to God then you will be fine. Here is one recent thread discussing this. Notice that the literature courses are the ones which some have more apprehension over: http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/628571-wilson-hill-academy/?p=7399626 Edited May 26, 2017 by dereksurfs
RootAnn
Yael - A handful to "lots" of Christian content in the 8th/9th grade writing classes (Fundamentals of Expository Writing, Fundamentals of Academic Writing), depending on the kids in the class & the writing assignment. I assume there would be even more in the Great Conversations classes. No experience with the math or science classes, but I assume much less in math. I think all WHA classes at least start with a prayer.
mirabillis
For Mr Reini in particular, my ds says that he says a prayer at the beginning and end of each class. Other than that, all secular.
