Birthday whine, need cheering

Birthdays are a big deal in our home.  Dh takes the day off and we celebrate by doing something special.  In all the years we have been married, he has only missed mine once, youngest dd's once, and oldest dd's once.  That is a miracle really.  For mine, we usually go to a museum, or the homeschool bookfair.  Since this is youngest dd's senior year, homeschool bookfairs are not happening.  So, I thought this year, my 55th we would go to one of the art museums and out to lunch.  Dh would grill something for dinner if we wanted and we could play board games.

Dh doesn't think he can get the day off but he doesn't know yet.  He won't know until the week of, maybe the day before.  Oldest dd has a final exam that day.  Youngest dd and I thought we would go out to lunch, maybe get my hair done, window shop or some such "girly" thing.  Instead of cake, I thought we could stop at Gigi's and get cupcakes.  I'm gluten free and they have wonderful gluten free cupcakes!!  But..........

Today, my much loved doggie needed emergency surgery.  She is home now (with the dreaded cone) with medications.  Her followup is at 9:15 the morning of my birthday.  She should be okay, but she is a senior dog so it is a bit more concerning than if she was a younger dog.  And I just don't think I can justify doing much  for my birthday after spending the money at the vet today.  The specialist vet we had to see today is up near Gigi's and the  beauty shop I like...all on the other side of town.  With lots and lots of road construction.  It wouldn't be easy to go up for the appointment, drive back, drop off the doggie, then drive right back up there.

So, my birthday plans are up in smoke.  Gone out the window.  Poof into thin air.  Etc, etc, etc.

I'm trying to get a better attitude.  It is just a day.  We can celebrate the day before or the day after.  But, with all coming up the rest of the month, I really wanted a joy break on my birthday....

whine....sigh....give me some words of wisdom here.... :nopity: :nopity:

Dh just called.  He should be here on the 11th but has a meeting all day on the 12th.  Dd said right before dh called that we should celebrate on the 12th since she has finals on the 11th and works on the 13th.

Oldest dd will be moving on soon.  She will be transferring to another college soon and living away from home.  I'm soon going to be in the "call and card" phase of birthdays since dc will be out and on their own.  55 is a bit of a milestone so I was hoping for something this year with all of us.

I think you need to find a way to celebrate that feels special to you, whether on another day, at a different time, etc. Why can't you drive back to that end of town to celebrate after the vet appt?

This is important to you so let it be important. Happy Birthday!
