Moxie
I've been using Google Drive more and more for typing out documents. All my kids have Google accounts through school. So, why am I still paying $8/month for Office? Any reason I shouldn't just fully move to Google?
Ali in OR
My kids use Google Drive for everything. I'm sure their generation will not be buying Office. But I'm not in their generation. I own Office and like using it, but I don't have a monthly fee which I would resent.
Erica in OR
If you still want the functionality of Office without the pricetag, Open Office is an option. Erica in OR

Erica in OR I do but Google seems to do everything office does and for free and I can use my iPad. Is there a downside I'm missing?

vonfirmath
Microsoft Office offers advanced formatting options in Word and Powerpoint that Google Drive does not. So far I've been able to get around it -- but I know it would not work for the stuff I do at work.
crazyforlatin
What about Google Slide? Is that easier and better to use than MS PowerPoint? We have such an old version of Word and PowerPoint.

If it has all the formatting that you use regularly, I'd just go with Google Docs. I like the online availability and collaborative aspects of Google, but some formatting options can be clunky or nonexistent. But we own office and don't pay a monthly fee. I have used google slides and power point has some fancier gadgets but for simpler stuff google is fine. rainbowmama
If you get rid of Microsoft Office and someone sends you a document in Microsoft Office, how would you view the document if you only have Google Drive?
cintinative
IMO the spreadsheet functionality in Google is not as good as Excel.

Microsoft has viewer applications.
