Saxon Geometry

Recommended Posts

My rising 9th grader will be using VT algebra, which includes algebra I & II.  I am thinking of switching to Saxon Advanced Math after that, since she has been using Saxon algebra 1/2 with great success.

For those of you who have experience with Saxon Advanced Math, will my dd be able to go right into the geometry section in Saxon Advanced Math since she won't have geometry background in Saxon algebra I & II?

If not, will say a geometry course on khan academy or EDX (https://www.edx.org/course/introduction-geometry-schoolyourself-geometryx-1) be sufficient to fill in the gaps before she is able to handle the geometry in Advanced Math smoothly?

Does the geometry section in Saxon Advanced Math covers completely different material in the geometry sections in Saxon algebra I & II or does it cover similar topics, just going deeper?

No, I would say she won't be able to jump into AdvMath without having the geometry first. The geometry that's integrated in AdvMath is a deeper geometry than what is found integrated in Alg1&2, and it actually builds on it. I think she would need to take some other geometry before jumping into AdvMath. Hope this helps!

Have you considered just sticking with Saxon for Algebra 1 & 2? Sounds like she's doing great with 1/2. If your plan is to move back to Saxon for Adv Math, I'd be inclined to stick with the Saxon sequence. Then you'd know she has just the right amount of geometry coverage to do well in Adv Math. Best wishes! :)
