Roadrunner
Any recommendation for history textbooks in French language? Amazon has a bunch, but I can't seem to find any samples. I was hoping for more modern history and politics if possible. Do IB texts for history exist in French version?
bibiche
History of France or general history? For an interesting overview of the history of France I quite like Jean Sévillia's Histoire Passionné de la France.
Roadrunner
I would say either, but prefer world history in french. I don't want a book aimed at adults, but a textbookfor kids. I am wondering if maybe I can start doing history in French as regular history.
Loesje22000
This is supposed to be for the grade 12 exit exam if I am counting / translating wel: https://www.amazon.fr/Histoire-Géographie-1re-STI2D-STL-STD2A-Alexandra-Monot/dp/2091638706/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1491633742&sr=8-4&keywords=Histoire+nathan The french track of the european school nearby (EB is comparble to IB) use this in their last year: https://www.amazon.fr/Histoire-Tle-ES-L-S-Jean-Michel-Lambin/dp/2011353513/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1491634102&sr=1-3&keywords=histoire+terminale+hachette+lambin One can check the booklists of other years / language tracks here: http://www.esmol.net/Boekenlijsten
Monica_in_Switzerland
I've been really happy with this history book for my (strong student) 4th grader. I think it's be appropriate even up to 8th grade. Manuel d'Histoire . You can see samples on the website, but basically, most chapters are a 2 page spread (some are a bit longer) of well-composed text (not a jumpy annoying encyclopedia entry), followed by a few comprehension questions. The text is well-illustrated with maps, art, etc. It does not contain an answer key. I have my ds use the comprehension questions as a jumping-off point to give either an oral or written narration of each chapter. I think there's 72 chapters in total, so it could easily be used for 2 years or sped up. Same publisher has a lower-level book that my (strong) 2nd grader is using: L'Histoire de Monde In this same format, they have other great titles. We own l'Histoire des Grands Hommes, but there are also titles for history of the ancient world, famous historical women, history of art, history of composers... Look in the "Jeunesse" section of the website. My daughter adores her "Lecons des Choses" which is a science text of how things work and how things are made... it's really well-done and she peruses it constantly.
Monica_in_Switzerland
Oh, by far my kids' favorite resource for history is this one: histoire du monde en BD
Joan in GE
Any recommendation for history textbooks in French language? Amazon has a bunch, but I can't seem to find any samples. I was hoping for more modern history and politics if possible. Do IB texts for history exist in French version? I'm not on enough these days to know what grade-level you need....presuming high school if you're talking about the IB. There probably are IB History books in French but I don't have any recommendations. I know 9th grade better than 12th grade... The series for French school 6-9th grade follows WTM with Ancient History 6e (6th grade), Middle Ages 5e (7th grade)...so most recent history would be for 9th grade which is 3e... They always do it with Geographie for that level...and the Geographie is more like Human Geography....We found these books to have pretty interesting information...we ended up following American texts for 10-12 just due to testing reasons, need for American History, AP exam, etc....And of course since it's a French series, they will have more French history than American or UK etc history... Eg. Histoire Geographie
Roadrunner
That's good to know how those books correspond to the history cycle. I do have a six grader. The reason I was thinking maybe high school books is I remember looking at middle school ones a while back and they had very little text. Amazon sells those https://www.amazon.com/Histoire-Géo-Education-civique-3e/dp/2210753333/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1491671979&sr=8-15&keywords=histoire+geo Does anybody know if they are worth buying? Joan in GE
The book you link is just like a homework book....a supplement if you would. The real texts are like the one I linked...
Joan in GE
Here's another example on Canadian Amazon... https://www.amazon.ca/Histoire-Géographie-3e-Enseignement-moral-civique/dp/2091718971/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1491672783&sr=8-4&keywords=histoire+geographie+3e You can partly tell by the price....they're not free... But the CNED might have similar texts online for free...at least they did several years ago...
Joan in GE
You can go to the publisher to find out more about an offer...perhaps be able to look inside for some. http://www.joursoir.magnard.fr They say for 'la maison' but that's as homework practice...most kids aren't doing homeschool in France.

bibiche
While you are waiting to receive your textbook, here is a lower level (CM2, so one grade lower than 6eme) that you can have a look at: http://www.academie-en-ligne.fr/Ecole/Ressources.aspx?PREFIXE=AL5HG05

Joan in GE
So increadibly busy. It seems to me there are way too many pictures and too few words. I hope the upper ones have more text. If you can wait a bit, I can try to find the CNED online versions or get out my history books and take some photos. There is more text the higher you go, but one thing you should understand about the French textbooks is that they try to encourage dialogue and thinking through conversation...It's not just about a student sitting and reading everything.....I actually at one point liked the Hachette ones better though haven't investigated recently and they had an online teacher edition so that you could get an idea of the answers they were looking for when discussing the pictures. Here's an example that comes to mind although from Geographie... There would be a picture of a bidonville and then the teacher would ask questions (I think the questions might also be in the student book but forget if there are more)...to get the student to study the picture and really think about the lives of the people in the picture. I don't know your level of French to know what level of conversation you could have with your children...but it's a good approach for learning a language as well.

The 9th grade level could be drier with smaller print, etc... AND the academie en ligne is CNED, you can see it up at the top left...so you could poke around on that site to look at the higher level books. And they probably have the teacher/parent 'book' as well to get answers to questions.... In relation to different publishers, some are better than others in terms of the types of questions they ask....I used to like Hachette but don't know if the others have gotten better...
bibiche
Yep, if you don't want images you are going to have to go a different route. Here, for example, is a history book for Terminale: http://en.calameo.com/read/003221622b7779759eae1?bkcode=003221622b7779759eae1&language=fr&page=1&showsharemenu=true&authid=vBpGtQP40QXZ. You'll see it really doesn't get less "busy." Edited April 9, 2017 by bibiche
Roadrunner
I just ordered Reviser Son Bac avec Le Monde : HistoireI know it's not exactly the textbook, but maybe this will suit our needs a bit more. It's a thin book, but I can supplement it and make it a dual language class. Since he will DE foreign language next year, this is really just the icing on the cake.

Loesje22000
Hello, in your last link, under the french years, what do they mean? What is "Francais 7" for example? In an European School one can enroll in 1 educational language at the same time. So nederlands is the track with Dutch as instruction language. Francais has French as instruction language. All track, independent their instructions language, results in the same recognized EB diploma. Their counting of years (grade) differs from what I am used to, so I might be wrong. But looking at their booklists '7' refers to grade 12, '1' to grade 6
