Seasider
that's nut free, dairy free, and low sugar? So far I've used mostly coconut milk, sometimes water. Just wondering what I'm overlooking. Smoothies usually consist of frozen fruit (mostly berries), chia seeds, ground flax, vegan protein powder, a bit of kale, and the liquid. Liz CA
You could press fruit juice but that's an extra step unless you do a large batch and keep in in the fridge.
tdbates78
Sometimes I used fruit enhanced sparkling water like La Croix.
Jean in Newcastle
The peeled orange I plop in there becomes liquid. Other than that, I just put a bit of water to make things flow. (Other ingredients are a banana, kale, frozen berries)

I have a juice extractor - I don't mind the extra step every now and then. I just hate to wash all the extractor parts every single day! But that is a good idea, carrot and cucumber juice would provide mild flavored vegetable additions.

(Other ingredients are a banana, kale, frozen berries) Oh yeah, an orange would liquify! I'd count that as the fruit portion. Could probably toss in spinach with a flavorful orange to balance it out. RioSamba
I like to use herbal tea (cold, obvs). I'm a Colorado girl so I love Celestial Seasonings. I like the Zinger varieties for smoothies.
Bambam
Are we weird? We use V-8 Fusion - Blueberry Pomegranate specifically. Just enough to make it liquid enough to drink.
Arcadia
If we are not using milk, we would be using bananas with strawberries or mango or watermelon or avocado when they are in season. The bananas already give lots of liquid and hopefully help with potassium intake. Edited March 27, 2017 by Arcadia
happi duck
Most recently: water coconut *water* Ripple "milk", unsweetened
Seasider
Wow these are some great ideas I wouldn't have thought of! Thank you all! I will have to look at Ripple milk, that looks promising. It would be a great way to add protein differently than with the powder.
Crimson Wife
Can you do seed milks like hemp or flax? Or are those not tolerated? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Haven't tried, but seed butters (sunflower) is not my favorite.
Hen
I really like doing 1/2 cup almond or coconut milk and 1/2 cup of strong coffee (!) a scoop of protein powder (chocolate) and either a half a banana or some frozen strawberries, or I just picked up some frozen cherries (yum!) I'm a big of a creature of habit. I don't drink coffee, but I really love it in a smoothie. Edited March 28, 2017 by Hen
friscomom
I have seen Oat Milk in our grocery stores. Would that be an option?
J-rap
I generally just use water, because I figure the fruit and veggies in it gives it enough flavor, and I don't want more calories. Sometimes I'll add just a quick pour of coconut milk though, or a spoonful of yogurt.
SunshineMom
We just use filtered water for all our smoothies.
wintermom
I've given up smoothies. I just eat all the stuff I'd include in the smoothie without the sugar liquid, which is bad for the teeth.
