GoVanGogh
DS (freshman) has severe aphasia, along with mild cerebral palsy. He can type well, but the aphasia affects the composition aspect of writing. He finds writing (composing) to be painful and mentally exhausting. Otherwise, he is a great student. He has taken several literature classes online through Memoria Press but they didn't require writing. He took the Socratic discussion class from WTMA where he had to write weekly. He loved the class but barely tolerated the writing. That said - he did well on the assignments. (He worked with his speech therapist on the assignments.) He sees a speech therapist weekly and they work on both oral and written communication. He has gone through the full neuropsych eval and will likely need/get accommodations in college, but he still needs to work on writing in a friendly environment. I am looking for online sources for writing instruction. He knows how to write, just can't get the words out easily so needs lots of gentle practice. Any and all recommendations for teachers or online sources appreciated.
Julie of KY
I've used Brave Writer for my student with dysgraphia. The assignments won't change, but they are very good about working with the student at whatever level they are at and trying to move them along. GoVanGogh
Thank you for the recommendation. I think I will enroll DS in their movie course and see if that can lure him into writing.
