AP Studio Art portfolio question

Recommended Posts

Have any of you turned in an AP Studio Art portfolio as the teacher before? Dd2 is considering sending in a portfolio for the 3D option next year.

I would have to register a syllabus with the College Board, as I've done with 3 or 4 other classes now, but I feel weird signing up as a history, science, AND art teacher and the art teacher has to be directly involved in the process from what I'm reading.

So - wondering if any other homeschooling families have had any experience or luck without an AP Art Teacher directly involved?

Do you have to make it an AP course?  Can't your dd register and submit the portfolio the same way a student can take an exam without having taken the official AP course?  e.g., for the transcript, call it Studio Art 3D Design with AP Exam (or Portfolio Submission or whatever)

Most AP Studio Art candidates prepare their portfolios through organized AP instruction. If your school does not offer an AP Studio Art program, you may work independently to complete the portfolio. It is vital that you plan far enough in advance so that you can complete the portfolio on time.

Awesome. Thank you!! I have obviously been reading and re-reading too many things about too many topics and missed that information!

Now we have a plan. I'll still call to make sure we don't have to go through a school system and that we can submit on our own ðŸ‘😊

I just saw something in the discussions on College Confidential about maybe needing a school code or some stickers or something, so I'd ask about the logistics of submitting independently as a homeschooler.

Ah, yes! That will also be important, as she will be taking other AP exams through the high school next year as well. (I just don't remember this particular test being on their list, and since the teacher has to be so hands-on in sending in the evidence of the work vs just the kids taking a test, I don't think they'd welcome a "tag-along" homeschooled kid, lol!)

I have no experience, but I know there have been threads on this before. I don't remember anyone posting that they successfully submitted without a school even when they were taking an approved AP course with an outside teacher/class, so keep the Hive informed!

When I sent in the portfolio way back in the dawn of time, there was a special envelope to use (this was for 2D art) that had a sticker on it that you had to mark something on.  So, if it's the same now, you're probably going to need to obtain something like that from the College Board.
