Garga
UPDATE: Made a decision on what to do. Am pleased with the decision, so thought I'd share: I've decided to have him write a Choose Your Own Adventure story. It'll be fun but he'll have to still be creative and use all the elements of writing at the same time. Plus, it's a relatively easy thing to do here at the end of the school year when he's getting antsy. Each part of the story can be very short with lots of endings and restarts. A CYOA story is really a bunch of tiny little stories all put together. He'll start with a tree of the ways each decision could go and then start in on the writing. We'll use a different piece of loose leaf paper for each page, so he can shuffle them later into some sort of order. **************************************************************** Original Post: My DS12 is in 6th grade and writes on level. I just did some math and realized that I must have miscalculated at the beginning of the year and we will be short 18 writing lessons this year. I don't want to skip them as that's a full month of schoolwork. He already will get 2.5 months off for summer vacation and I don't want him having 3.5 months off from writing. Does anyone have a clever idea of what I could do with him for 18 writing lessons--one month of school? My brain is a bit fried right now and I'm drawing a blank. It doesn't have to be rigorous. Just something to keep his writing skills from stagnating. Edited April 8, 2017 by Garga_
Garga
I looked at this Bravewriter class, but it's $199. I think that's a bit too much for us right now. But something like that would be cool if it was half that price. Edited March 19, 2017 by Garga
Erica in OR
Maybe choose a level of The Well-Trained Mind's "The Creative Writer" and do either the 18 poetry lessons or the 18 writing lessons? Erica in OR
Mrs Twain
I would use Maxwell's "School Composition for Use in Higher Grammar Classes." It is a vintage program that you can download for free from google books. They are great writing lessons and quite "classical" in nature. https://books.google.com/books/about/School_Composition.html?id=E_8AAAAAYAAJ
Targhee
I would have him use the things he's learned this year to work on a couple writing projects of his choice (maybe just one big one). lmrich
You could look on Teachers Pay Teachers for a unit on a certain type of writing.
