TerriM
Since you guys are the masters of homeschooling classes, I figured I'd ask here before I continue to beat my head against my web search: My 13yo son wants to learn the Unity programming language (system?) this summer. Has anyone done this with their kid? If so, what class? Either online or available on the Peninsula side of the Bay Area is fine (say Burlingame down to San Jose). If it is relevant, he does have programming experience in Python. It looks like Unity offers tutorials online. Has anyone here used them to learn the language? TerriM
Thanks Arcadia! I saw the ID Tech one and wasn't sure how much could be covered in just a week...... Looking at it again, still looks like just a week.... Other one is just a week too. Maybe it's not too hard to learn Unity? Arcadia
It is usually more of a beginner jumpstart kind of thing. Kids who are still interested after the camp improve their skills using other courses or tutor or peer collaboration. Did you join Silicon Valley Coder Dojo (http://www.coderdojosv.org) which is free? I forgot if they have ever offered Unity classes. ETA: You might want to keep a lookout for future sessions "8-Week VR Development Class and VR Boot Camp January 22 · 12:00 PM Hacker Dojo Join us for a FREE 8-week VR Development Class where students will learn Unity and VR game development and design and an 8-week VR Boot Camp where indie developers will release an alpha version of their game at the end of the boot camp!" https://www.meetup.com/Virtual-World-Arcade/events/236982309/ Edited March 4, 2017 by Arcadia
TerriM
I was on the Mid-peninsula Coder Dojo at one point, but I got off (I think they met at Box in Redwood City). I don't remember if I saw a Unity class, but I was looking for stuff for my 8 year old..... I'll get back on and keep an eye out! That would be perfect for DS1!
