Never seen an episode of her shows (not interested), but I've been reading articles in the news about her gastric bypass surgery, weight loss, and *two* excess skin removal surgeries. She's gone from 460 pounds to a size 4. I'm sure the producers are going to milk the show and string viewers along for as long as they can before the reveal, and it sounds like she has stay in hiding until then, so as not to spoil the surprise. Lol. Anyways, I'm happy for her! I'm sure it was a lot of dedication and hard work on her part. Although, all the help and getting paid to document it all probably was nice. I won't be watching, but I'm sure it will pop up in the news when the reveal happens.

Honestly, no.  I am happy for anyone who achieves a great weight loss.  I don't like to see people becoming rich and famous for nothing, though. 

 

Some months ago I saw something - don't remember where so have no cite - that said "reality tv star" is a career path a lot of young teens are aspiring to.  There's something icky about that to me.

Some months ago I saw something - don't remember where so have no cite - that said "reality tv star" is a career path a lot of young teens are aspiring to. There's something icky about that to me.

Oh, yuck. I agree. The concept is bizarre to me and usually very fake and scripted too. About the farthest thing from reality actually.

Who is Mama June?

She was a pagent mom with a reality show Honey Boo Boo (her daughter's name). The trailers I've seen make the family seem super hillbilly (not sure if that's the right adjective, don't mean to offend) and crude. Weird combo, I know!

I thought this was who it was. I'm not interested mostly because it annoys me the way it's being milked along. I watch only HGTV and Food Network, but I've seen the previews. It annoys me.

Former reality TV star who lost her show when it was discovered that she was trying to get back together with the pedophile who was convicted of multiple counts of sexual abuse against her eldest daughter (who was EIGHT at the time), including forcing her to perform oral sex on him. Guy did 10 years in prison and as soon as he got out, Mama June was buying him stuff and trying to get back with him because (in her words) "she felt sorry for him."

Someone asked a question the other day about people being "trash" because they live in a mobile home. This woman would be "trash" under my definition. Anyone who lets a convicted sexual abuser who abused her own kid, come back in her life and hang around her other kids is pure trash and I don't mind saying it. She's disgusting.

I couldn't agree more. What an awful mother. What a betrayal.

 

Dang. Sorry about posting about her new gig, y'all. Def. don't want to be supporting her. Ugh.

Iirc, didn't she kick the pedophile to the curb when there was a huge public backlash? I honestly don't really follow this stuff and have never watched the show, but I seem to remember something about that.

I would be interested in seeing the "transformation," but Mama June's personal history disgusts me so much that I don't want to do even the slightest thing to support her.

 

None of us will need to watch the show -- I'm sure Mama June's pictures will be all over the magazine covers at supermarket and Walmart checkout counters all over the country. :ack2:

Well first she denied that she'd even talked to him, then when it was pointed out that there were photos of her — and Alana/HBB, who was 8 or 9 at the time — with the guy, she admitted it, saying she felt sorry for him. Oh, and her other excuse was that she wanted her daughter Lauryn to see him, since he "might" be Lauryn's father — even though she has also said that Micheal Ford (father of Jessica) is Lauryn's father. Oh, and Ford is also a convicted pedophile — Mama June sure can pick 'em, eh? 

 

Anyway, she does claim she has stopped seeing McDaniel after losing her show. Maybe that was a condition of getting the weight loss show? 

 

The whole thing is just so many levels of nasty.  :ack2:

I think you're right about that, which makes her even more disgusting as far as I'm concerned.

 

Obviously, she shouldn't have been with that pervert to begin with, but if she truly cared about him and dumped him as soon as the media latched on to the story, that makes it even worse because it shows she has no sense of loyalty to the people she supposedly loves. She knew all about the guy's past, so it's not like she learned something new from the stories on TMZ; she ditched him because she was afraid she would lose her tv show -- and thank goodness the show was cancelled. It is sickening that she is getting another television show.

Sickening. I have heard the story before, but every time I hear it, I am beyond disgusted with Mama June. It makes me sick that anyone would have given her another television show. Honestly, it makes me sick that anyone wants anything to do with her at all. She is the worst kind of mother I can imagine.

Not that I really care but I have no clue how she could be a size 4 unless it's vanity sizing. My dd is 5-1 and maybe 105 and she is a size 4. I never watched the show either but I've seen pictures of her before andi don't t remember her being short. Of course there are size 2 models who are very tall but for the most part it would be hard for an adult who isn't short to be that size. For a short time my 5-10 daughter was about 110 and a size 4 but she was way underweight at the time but she was only 18.

Unfortuantely (?) gastric bypass usually does not work out long term. Within 10 years, most people gain over half the weight back. It does nothing to change the underlying lifestyle choices and (in many cases) mental health issues. Seeing as how this woman is the height of mentally sound and a brilliant healthy choice maker, she might have different results. I hope for her sake she does. You can never go back to having all of your organs intact again.

Yeah, I managed to hit a size 4 in jeans for 30 seconds before kid #4.  But Target's sizing was quite generous at the time.  ;)  That was not my size with other brands. And upstairs? I haven't worn anything smaller than a large since I got boobs.  Sizing is a joke.

 

As for this woman, I don't really care, but I have to reluctantly own up to a sliver of creepy curiosity.

Can someone tell me why this woman should be financially and emotionally rewarded?  Because when "we" (general we) watch her tv show, or buy the magazine with her on the cover, or whatever else... we are rewarding her.   

 

She sounds like she is either mentally ill or plain evil.  Worthy of help and forgiveness*, surely.  But fame, fortune, and adulation?    I just don't get it.  

 

Sorry if I sound like I'm being nasty.    I don't mean to be.  I just... don't get it. 

 

ETA: *forgiveness if she has given up the pedophile boys, asked forgiveness of her children, etc, etc.

I wore a 3-4 in high school. I have clothes that fit me now with a 4 on the label. I am not remotely the same size. The sizing has gone up that much. Even if "4" really means 8 or 10 or heck, even 16 that is quite small compared to her former size. I'm betting it'll be like looking at the new Al Roker.

 

I'd bet money that something horrific happened to this woman. It's not normal to gravitate towards weirdo men like that. I did see the "dollar makes me holler" show back when it started. Wasn't the mom an extreme coupon lady and the little girl was a pageant toddler? She must be a teenager by now. I never thought they'd be on the air this long.

Am I the only person who thinks that people over about age 30 or so who are a size 4 and below look unhealthy? Like every time I see some of these super thin actresses, I cringe a little. Perhaps on some people it looks normal and I'm just not realizing it. And dress size can be hard to tell. It just sounds so unhealthy.

 

Gah, but now I'm being sucked in! And I definitely have no interest in rewarding Mama June.

I have to admit I would like to see what she looks like. I just like seeing transformations and used to love watching what not to wear. I think many people have worked with her and are trying to help her have a better life in many ways. I see that as a positive. I don't think she had much self worth.

 

I just looked it up and she is 5'4. A size four seems quite reasonable for someone of that height especially if she has small frame.

I hope the kids will be eating healthier, too, but I doubt it. I remember them eating spaghetti with margarine and ketchup. Vomit.

I'm 53 and I'm 5'5" tall, and at my absolute heaviest, I wear a size 6 (and that's when I know I need to lose a few pounds.) I'm not too skinny; I just have a small frame. I have never been on a diet. I eat what I want and I am not some kind of compulsive exerciser. I'm naturally this size and it runs in my family. It bugs me a little when people act like it's not normal to be a size 0 or a 2 or a 4, because it really is normal for many of us. It's just the way we are.

 

That said, I could be wrong but Mama June doesn't look small-boned or naturally slim to me so it's hard to picture her as a size 4. Honestly, if she was 460 pounds and now wears a size 4, she must have lost at least 335 pounds -- and that would be to fit into a fairly generously cut size 4. It's hard to imagine that she lost that much weight in a safe or healthy way in that little time. The whole process must have been agony for her -- and the people producing the show probably didn't care at all about her health because she's nothing more than dollar signs to them.

 

I'll bet she was willing to do anything to get back on television, and the show producers were willing to exploit her greed and desire for the limelight in any way necessary so they could make money off of her.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend you. I know that definitely people can just be small boned and not be too skinny at that size. The reverse is also true. I was actually surprised she wasn't taller than 5-4. I was guessing more like 5-8. I have only seen her in pictures and she always seemed taller and larger boned. I think everyone is different with how they carry their weight. I'm 5-6 and I'm middle boned but even when I weighed 110-115 in my early 30's I couldn't wear a size 4. Actually I was too skinny for me and felt better 5-10 pounds heavier. My daughter is definitely small boned and tiny. She has probably gained 5 pounds in the past few years but is still only 105. She just now fits into a size 4. Everyone is so different. I also know people who are heavier than me but wear a smaller size. I just carry my weight in different areas.

 

I just don't like it when the media will say so and so is a size 4 or whatever after that person has lost a lot of weight but it still doesn't seem possible that they really are that size. Maybe it is vanity sizing but it seems pretty dramatic. I've seen it over and over again with celebrities. I think it sends the wrong message to people, especially teens. They just need to be honest. It's great for someone to lose that much weight but her going down to a size 8 or size 6 is still incredible.

 

Regardless I won't watch the show and I can't stand her or her family.

Sorry, Cat, I didn't mean that it's not normal for some people. I just meant that it seemed improbable for her to have lost enough weight to be at that size. I'm basing that solely on the few photos and videos I've seen here and there, so of course I could be mistaken.
