ForeverFamily
Hi everyone. I rarely post on this board, but figured this topic was better fit for here than over on the education boards. :). I need some ideas for snacks during the day. We mostly did away with snacking between meals several years ago, because my kids weren't eating their meals. But now my kids are older and they have been getting extra hungry between meals. Especially if we have an early breakfast or late dinner. What kinds of snacks does your family like? I like healthy snacks, but I will admit that I am the type of mom that doesn't have a problem giving my kids fishy crackers and fruit snacks. It's always a balancing act between quick and easy, not to pricey, and healthy. So all ideas are welcome. :)
clementine
Unsalted nuts is the go-to snack for all of us. I buy them from Costco, but I'm sure you can find them cheaper elsewhere.
MaryMak07
Carrots, bell peppers, cucumber slices, applesauce, fruit, cashews, fig bars from Costco, fruit leathers, corn chips
Spryte
We don't always have the healthiest snacks, and we are nut free, and allergic to most fresh things, among other things so our choices might be odd... Sandwiches, wraps, chips and guacamole or salsa, pepperoni (nuke for 30 seconds to make chips), apples, cheese, olives, grapes, strawberries in season with chocolate drizzled or not, DS will make himself pizza or quickie pasta, leftovers, sunbutter on bread or apples, hummus without the tahini - though most could have that, tuna, deviled eggs. DS and DD make cookies and muffins a lot, too.

school17777
One thing I did when my kids started getting hungrier was to switch to whole milk - that was a tip that I might have gotten from here!
greenbeanmama
I try to make most snacks "boring" so kiddos will view it as tidding them over until the next meal instead of "better than meals". We typically do a protein and a produce. Cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese slices, peanut butter, nuts, hard boiled eggs. Cuke slices, carrots, apple, pear, whatever fruit is in season...also frozen pineapple and frozen blueberries are loved around here. (Edited because I can't type well on my phone) Edited February 25, 2017 by greenbeanmama

Zinnia
I usually go for easy. Homemade yogurt made with whole milk. We mix with sugar and vanilla usually, but sometimes jam. If they are starving with this, I'll add toast, too. Apples and peanut butter. Peanut butter spoon. High class snack right there. ;) I like popcorn, and they like it, but the mess! So I prefer that when they can go outside.

City Mouse
Well, I am making homemade Chex mix right now for my gluten free DS, and the house smells so yummy.
Tina
Cottage cheese. I also made a big batch of Spanish rice so there would be leftovers for snack.
Guest
Hummus and pita bread. I make hummus in my Nutribullet. It's cheap and easy.
SparklyUnicorn
One of mine loves wraps. So I keep some ham and cheese and salad greens in the fridge. He can whip up a wrap if hungry.
ForeverFamily
Thank you everyone for all of the great ideas. I had thought of a few of these, but most hadn't crossed my mind. I will be making a go to list. I love the idea of not making the snack too exciting so it doesn't become a meal replacement for them. Thank you! :)
