footballmom
DS just tested positive for Flu A. I'm shocked. I really thought it was strep - his throat is sore and he has a temp just over 100. Was not expecting flu! If you've had diagnosed flu in your house this year, how long did it take to recover? We are just getting over a stomach bug from last week that hit everyone in the house...except the one who just tested positive for flu! HSmomof2
I'm on day 11 here and still not feeling great. Started antibiotics today for bronchitis. Both dc had it as well, but they were only down about 4 days. I think kids tend to bounce back quicker.
ktgrok
Seconding elderberry extract...the syrup. The gummies have almost no active elderberry in them. It has been shown to work better than Tamiflu and cut symptoms and duration of illness in half.

Does it work if you are throwing up?
ktgrok
Where do you purchase elderberry extract? And is it helpful for viruses other than the flu? Any/most pharmacies, healthfood store, etc. I think even my grocery store carries it. Sambucocl is the brand that is most known. And yes, antiviral in general.

Well, you'd have to keep it down for it to work, but it is antiviral in general. It is most tested against flu though.
East Coast Sue
Three of my kids had it and took Tamiflu within 24 hrs of the first symptoms. They were only sick for 1-2 days. Their friends who didn't get Tamiflu were sick for 2 weeks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
footballmom
Thanks for the replies so far. Going to head out to get Elderberry in just a few minutes. He also started Tamiflu tonight too. He has a couple of things that are really important to him in the next week so praying he recovers quickly. Though, I don't play around with flu and won't risk getting others sick so we will hibernate as long as we need to.
trulycrabby
Sambucol will help. Do you have any zofran/ondansetron to help with nausea so that DS can keep the Sambucol down long enough for it to work? Sorry about bad sentence structure; I'm too tired to fix it. :o Edited February 25, 2017 by trulycrabby
scbusf
I just had Flu A. I ran a high fever for 5 days. Today is day 14 and I'm still tired. Today, my cough is finally noticeably better.
Catwoman
I'm glad you're using both Tamiflu and Sambucol -- I think it's an excellent combination. We also add Oscillococcinum.
Peaceful Isle
I have been sick for about two weeks with the flue. So have my children.

AnniePoo
Dh got over it in about 3 days with tamiflu.
AngieW in Texas
I had flu type A. I took tamiflu and was okay to return to work as a teacher after three days at home. The cough is still with me three weeks later, but that is typical for me once I have anything that involves coughing. I got sick mid-January last year and the cough didn't go away until spring break. Teaching just puts a lot of strain on my voice. I have to talk and project my voice for hours every day. Until I got a full week off from this, I couldn't recover completely.
