Omnibus/Writing/Geography

I understand that Omnibus has a lot of reading and writing as pertains to history/theology/lit. What I am trying to figure out is if I need another writing program to cover the various types of writing. This will be for 7th grade. Is it needed? Would it just be way too much?

 

And....is a separate geography program overkill?

 

(I am aware of issues with Omnibus, still haven't committed, just exploring options)

Geography would be very easy to weave in. You don't need a separate curriculum, other than a big wall map you can roll out. As long as you feel comfortable using an overhead (Visa vis) marker to label out the places the books are from and discussing very generally what the climate and such are, you would be fine. Most of the books are very descriptive and give a good idea of the cultural ideology.

 

For most students, I think it might be overkill to add in any more. A movie here or there might not be terrible and feel very novel, but whole other text might squish the joy.

I wouldn't add a geography program either. If you need writing instruction you will have to add it. Omni has plenty of writing assignments and essay starters, but it does not teach writing. Something that lets you choose your own topics could be blended in. You could alternate writing through Omni with a curriculum, or just do most of Omni orally and do a full writing on the side.
