MistyMountain
I was looking on Pinterest for things to do while reading the Burgess Bird book. I do not have a color printer and some of things like copy work pages I would not use. I was thinking of just getting the Peterson Field guide book and coloring book but I was not sure if that would match up pretty well with the birds in the book. I did find some feeder birds coloring pages I liked too where you color them and fill in some info. There is also the Audubon Field Guide or the Stokes Field guide too and some Dover coloring books. Which field guide or coloring book would match up pretty well? Edited February 20, 2017 by MistyMountain
Kfamily
Here are some resources that I have saved: Cornell Bird Coloring Book (we use this along with a coloring book published by Dover-Audubon's Birds of America) Cornell's Bird Guide (we use this to listen to bird calls and watch videos) We also read a biography of John J. Audubon. I haven't seen the Peterson Field guide for birds, so I can't say if it lines up well. The linked coloring book has worked well for us. The Dover coloring book just adds different choices and goes along well with the biography. :)
MistyMountain
Yes I do like that Cornell Bird Coloring book and that website looks good too. Reading a biography of John J. Audo on is a good idea too.
FO4UR
The Dover coloring books are excellent. That is my pick.
2_girls_mommy
We love the Peterson Coloring Field guides. We have used ours for years and take them in our "nature bag" for when we go on walks or to sit and draw outside. I don't know how they match up with the book you mentioned since we didn't use it. But the Peterson guides are nice to have if you like to color or draw.
SilverMoon
We use the coloring pages here ~ https://web.archive.org/web/20130320044658/http://satorismiles.com/2010/03/08/burgess-bird-book-companion/ These videos ~ https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsiMTHbdTKa5YiAAf7USBsYN_Tstk-dz0&app=desktop DD/8 looks them all up here and usually gets lost in the website ~ https://academy.allaboutbirds.org/features/bird-song-hero/bird-song-hero-tutorial She spends time on this one too. ~ http://www.birds.cornell.edu/Page.aspx?pid=1478 There are lots of ideas gathered on this blog. ~ https://amblingalongtogether.wordpress.com/2016/04/22/resource-guide-burgess-bird-book/ We have Birds of North America which works well for the Burgess study. And region specific books. (Our area has lots of species not known in the majority of the US.) We were going to do the Great Backyard Bird Count this weekend and even took a class at the local Audubon center. Then a virus happened. She's feeling better today, but she's still staying horizontal in pjs. Maybe next year. If you have an Audubon near you go check it out. Ours is a bit of a drive but it was well worth the gas and time. Getting her around people who really know birds was really inspiring to her. And helps me keep up with her. 2_girls_mommy
Is it a coloring book or a how to draw book or both? It was hard to tell from the online listing. It is a field guide, but the drawings are black and white. It has full color stickers in the front. So you find the matching sticker and place it next to the drawing on the field guide page, and you color the drawings using the stickers to help you with the colors. The stickers help you identify the birds. I plan on getting the wildflowers one next.
