Accountability Thread: 2/19-2/25

Last full week of February coming up! I'm taking tomorrow off. The weekend has already been tough, and I'm going to be out of sleep and patience by Monday morning. I think having the day off will help everyone relax and recover.

Not to mention I get an extra day to do the planning I didn't get to.

Non school related: after a lovely walk at the park yesterday, my cell phone got crushed when an ambitious kid decided to fold up the stroller before I cleaned out the basket :( :( So we are heading to a repair shop to see if there is any hope.

School related: I think I am going to try a 4 day school schedule. Then use Fridays for planning, housework and projects. I haven't gotten my sewing machine out in forever and I miss sewing and the diy/upcycle projects I used to do. All my upcycled furniture are my favorite pieces and I have a few pieces that have been waiting in the garage.

Today will be a regular 5 subject school day and I'll add an extra tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday. We'll see how it goes.

I am glad I decided to take the day off from school today. I've got some cleaning to do and a little writing, but I'm so tired that I am already planning to lie down and see if I can nap this afternoon.

Also, somebody dumped more chickens on our road. This is the second time this year. I can't catch these things--they are bantam game birds and as agile as crows. We are going to try again this evening.

We caught two birds last night (the rooster and one hen) but we couldn't get the others. We are getting breakfast and going to try again this morning if the birds made it through the night alive. They were up in a good tree--lots of cover above and blackberry brambles below, so let's hope they did make it.

Today's plan:

Catch chickens (but don't count them before you catch)

French-lesson 11, DVD, workbook

Latin-Lesson 9 continued, review, workbook

Math-Lesson 11, 1 page KTD

Grammar/Composition-new spelling words, grammar lesson 2 on synonyms, WWS week 11, Day 1

Science-Cp 7, questions, additional reading

French-Cp 7, outline and narration, additional reading

Free Reading and Free Writing instead of Literature and Creative Writing this week.

For me: Catch chickens and try not to tear myself up, French, Latin, Geometry, Grammar. I've got a lot of vocabulary cards for French and Latin to do this week. I still have some copying to do (I didn't get to it yesterday due to chicken rodeo).

:grouphug: Jean, and  :grouphug: to mama25angels.

We are moving slowly today. Coming back from a break always feels like we're breaking rust off the upstairs gears to get moving. We had a good session with the remaining stray chickens this morning. It's just taking time to get them to settle down and not be afraid to come into the catching pen. Maybe later today or tomorrow we can get the gate closed and get them caught. They are very flighty and nervous birds.

Patience paid off. We got all three remaining birds!

Yay!!

We were able to get work done today! Youngest did Spanish/German, cursive, spelling (this was hard), literature and math. Math was the best part because we were able to read a math book, do some mental math for 5 min and did his math lesson, it was nice. The big boy did some of his math, his literature reading and Latin. We did practice a few of his piano pieces but not al of them, I will have him practice the rest after dinner.

I don't even know what to say about yesterday. My brain is numb. The one image from yesterday that keeps flashing in my mind was walking up to my car door and seeing ds (age 5) standing in a pool of 3 spilled hot fudge sundaes on the seat of my car. And that was the least obnoxious, stress inducing thing that happened yesterday. :scared:

Well, we will just keep putting one foot in front of the other and see what this day has in store for us. I'd like to get phnics, language arts and math done before 11 am eye doctor appointments for the big kids. Then we'll do science and history when the baby naps this afternoon. Piano lessons, grocery shopping, and lots of medical related phone calls need to happen today, too.

MrsRobinson, 3 sundaes, oy vey! I sure hope today is stress free. Those little people sure know how to keep us on our toes don't they?

I dont feel as bad yesterday but, still yucky and unable to breathe. I'm just hoping that we get some math and music practice done. Spanish and Latin would be a bonus.

Yes, we found the downside to those convenient drink carriers! When it goes, they ALL go!

Sorry you are still under the weather. Hopefully tomorrow you'll be feeling like yourself again. :)

Morning critter, how are the new birds adjusting?

Our schedule for today has been thrown for a loop, co op has been cancelled due to illness and I'm pretty happy as I'm just beginning to feel better and can use the extra day of rest. I have so much to catch up on that I don't know where to begin. We'll do our regular co op morning routine and I'll probably spend the afternoon doing lite housework so as not to tire myself out too much.

Younger boy:

Spelling test

Piano practice

Spanish/German

Lite math

Bigger boy:

Latin

Co op homework

Lite math

Me: laundry, sweeping/vacuum, dishwasher, dinner, pick Ds up from work, hopefully rest a bit more.

Wednesday was another day of weeping and gnashing of teeth because there was (gasp!) two writing assignments. I remembered how much better things went at the waterfall last week when I went away. So I left her alone and miraculously got two nicely done writing assignments in return.

Somehow this week just disappeared. I suppose because Monday was a holiday. The "computer school" I invented for ds8 started working really well. It seems to have inspired dd6 also. I feel like for the first time all year I have 3 children showing up happily to school which is just nuts. He does typing, xtramath (to keep up speed), and Elizabeth's phonics lessons as a refresher, all independently when he wakes up. Then he has piano, handwriting, and a small bit of math at the table. He is super excited about his new schedule lol.  He is switching from French to Greek for language as soon as Amazon delivers his new books.  Everything has been getting done for 6 school days in a row despite various appointments and disruptions so I am super happy.

DD is doing Duolingo French, MEP1, piano and typing all on her own every morning. DS4 woke me up this morning asking for his reading lesson.

I feel like I stepped into another dimension.

All that is left for today is my Russian and Finnish study, plus some free reading/read alouds.

I think that I'm on Plan G now for the day...

Dd did get her work done but she was faint this morning and by early afternoon had gone into a migraine.

I'm super behind in my housework and grading because of taking care of fires with ds, Dd and Rocky the dog. Fortunately dh, the other dog, the cat and both rabbits are all fine.

Critter I've been meaning to ask how your planning went during your week off?

Oh, it went well enough. It's easier now to just pull my written sheets for each subject and put the information in the weekly schedule now. It looks like we are going to finish some things early and get a jump on next year and some things are going to finish up on time, and Latin is going to go long, as usual.
