VirginiaMomof7
I'm looking for French conversation practice for my 12, 15, and 18 yo. Don't need a full curriculum, more like an hour or two a week with native speaker to supplement our studies. Has anyone else found a good online resource? yvonne
Chantal Plummer is fantastic. We've used her for two years, through a lit-based French 4. Native of France, but living in the States now.
h2bh
I second Yvonne's recommendation. Chantal is wonderful!
Roadrunner
If you just want to talk to somebody (no curriculum, no lesson plans), you can pay $10 an hour on italkie a native speaker. My son is greatly enjoying his sessions. I take care of the rest myself (grammar, lit...).
crazyforlatin
We're also with Chantal and italki; just depends on what you are looking for. Pure conversation at a low price, then italki. If you need someone long-term with whom to plan out French through AP, then Chantal. Even though we are with Excelsior French 3, we continue with Chantal year round (minus a couple of summer months) and italki to round out the conversation aspect. I was wary of italki in the beginning because there is no background check like other places, but so far, DD has met wonderful men and women from around the world, like Tunisia, Egypt, Barcelona, Hong Kong. I'm usually within earshot. She's a young student, but if your kids are older, I wouldn't worry as much. VirginiaMomof7
Thank you everyone! On Italki, do they converse freely or is it structured? Does Chantal have her own course or would she work with mine? I'm glad to hear this type of tutor has been helpful for some of you; I feel it is the missing link in our language study. h2bh
I know Chantal will work with the text of your choosing. She didn't own the text we were using so I found an inexpensive used copy and mailed it to her. I have no experience with the AP exam with her.
Roadrunner
In our case italki is free conversation. DS talks about everything from politics to comic books. I believe for more money you can get a more structured tutor.
