Another winter week coming up. I don't know exactly what I'll be doing this week. But I will after a few hours of planning. I'm supposed to do all that Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't happening yesterday.

I do know that I'm taking Monday off. But that's all I've got so far. :D

Good Monday!

No school for us today. I've got an appointment in town for my eyes--dilating them, checking pressures the hard way, I'm sure. Not my first rodeo. But I don't figure I'll be worth much after all that, so I opted to take a day off. Once I can see again, I'll probably write, and do a little cooking. Maybe.

Can I join in? I have almost everything planned except for a read aloud. I also need to gather a few manipulatives I'll be needing for math. And suggestions for a read aloud for ages 6 and 8? My big kids will be home tomorrow too, therefore I'm going to try to make school quick and easy tomorrow.

Sure! No ceremony here--just dive in whenever you want! :001_smile:

Extendedforecast- welcome! The more, the merrier we say in here!

We will do spelling test and perhaps a little math and nothing more today, field trip to the creation museum tomorrow and back to our regularly scheduled program on Wednesday. I plan to spend the remainder of today planning for the rest of the week and working on my co op class descriptions.

We are doing school work today. We have out of state family visiting and we are supposed to get together with them after the little ones nap to explore a nature preserve. (It's in the 60s today!) So if they are asked what they've been up to, I want them to be able to say, "school work." Probably shallow and insecure of me, but there it is. :leaving:

Today's school work:

Sit with dd and decide on her next book for independent reading. She flies through books so fast! She has spent our 3 day winter weather weekend coloring, drawing, and doing puzzles during independent reading time because she didn't want to read anything I suggested. I guess she needs a break or I don't know what. Gotta figure out what's going on there.

Read aloud time. 20 minutes Bible time with Dad this evening. Table of contents and dictionary skills lesson, writing 8's three 10 minute sessions, math graph lesson (dd's request), history video, and plenty of science discussion at the nature preserve later. Oh, and piano practice, 2 15 minute sessions (another DD request).

DS did phonics lesson 68, we buddy read the first 1/3 of Everything You Need to Know About Snakes, and he practiced writing letter b and p. I am skippng math with him today. I really don't think he needs it every day at 5 years old. He joined his big sis for the history video.

Welcome extended forecast! :seeya:

Sunday

Church

Rest

Monday

School work -- Prayer, record-keeping, Bible lesson, Science review, Science lesson (new), Math, Composition, Vocabulary, Roots, Spelling, Choir homework, French, Piano

A lovely evening of crafting and girl chatter

So far, so good. Today went well for us, no glitches or grumblings like we had last week. I think that last week was meant to smooth us back into a full week of full-on school work. So it was worth the pain, LOL.

We will do school tomorrow, however, two of the three are starting braces tomorrow. That ought to be interesting. Of course, this appointment has to be in the middle of the afternoon (because it's more time-consuming than an adjustment), so that cuts into the day. Oh, well, we'll make it up somehow.

All is quiet. Kitchen is done, laundry is done, rabbits are munching hay and kale, children are listening to stories in bed, hubby is... where is he? I have no idea! He probably is "stretching his back" on the bed. Which means he fell asleep. Sigh.

We did school today but DS sat in front of his math for an hour and 15 minutes and did 2-3 problems (accomplished everything else though). It is so frustrating knowing what he is capable of and watching what he actually does some days. I know a couple days lost here and there aren't much but.. Grr. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him multiply 7x5.

Sorry got off track there. :) Tuesday: Double math. :-p,all the usual, piano lessons, clean house for energy rating on weds.

Good morning everyone!

Tuesday went well. Dd was finally willing to try multiplication. So we did lesson 1 and she loved it so much, she insisted on doing lesson 2 and 3 as well. She bragged to her dad later how good she is at multiplication. I wished I'd tried to tell her she'd do just fine...

She also did the 2nd half of her Bible time, we did our read aloud all together, she did 2 grammar pages, writing 8s for 10 minutes morning, afternoon, and evening. She watched another history video, practiced piano for 2 15 minute segments, and prepped for evening out of the house activities. She colored in her spiffy coloring books during silent reading time again. We didn't get anywhere on that front. I don't want to battle her about it so I'm trying to be patient.

DS did phonics lesson 69 after lunch because he decided to whine all morning about everything. We buddy read more of his snake book, and he practiced writing letters j, r, and u.

Today is a busy day. I want to get as much school work done as possible before the boys have mid morning appointments. Dd is rolling and will take some of her work with her to work on while she waits. Then after lunch we are trying the nature preserve again. It was too muddy on Monday from the winter storm we had over the weekend. Then I have an appointment at 2, followed by dd's piano lesson and weekly grocery shopping. Then dinner at the in-laws. So we have a lot to squeeze lessons around but I really think we can do it if we are diligent.

We have been doing so well on school work lately and getting everything checked off the list but the housework is suffering. My babysitting charge came in this morning. Well, her daddy usually cuddles with her in the couch for a few minutes to ease the transition. Today he sat at the dining table looking right into the kitchen. Then she had to potty so he took her to the kids downstairs bathroom (which also contains the washer and dryer). After he left, I began looking around to see what he saw. Dishes on the counter, stuff all over the bathroom counter. Dirty laundry piled on the floor in front of the washer and clean laundry piled on top of the dryer. Uggh! So embarrassing! :svengo:

I'd love to hear how you all work chores into your school days to stay on top of the basics. I've tried fly lady and others in the past, but I don't want to bother with an elaborate system. I just need to get it done.

Bear in mind that mine are older, and I just plain don't care as much as I used to. :D

Daily am chores-animal stuff, make beds, start the laundry, unload the dishwasher.

Daily pm chores-animal stuff, load the dishwasher and start it, fold the laundry.

Monday-give the house a decent sweep, clean one bedroom (by which I mean I sweep and mop the place)

Tuesday-do the kitchen--counters get cleaned, sink gets scrubbed out, floors get swept and mopped. (Yes, I clean up my mess at the end of each day, but Tuesday I do a really good job. Sorta.) Chicken house gets mucked out.

Wednesday-living room-sweep, mop.

Thursday-give the house a decent sweep

Friday-clean the bedrooms and bathrooms (We wash linens on Friday so laundry is a little more intense on this day.)

Saturday-do the school planning. No housework except for chores.

Sunday-deal with groceries, play. No housework except for chores.

The boys are now old enough to do their own bedroom and bathroom, and I'm not fastidious. They have to live with it, I refuse to be bothered. They are beginning to take over laundry and we are working on dishes. Cooking will be next. Currently I cook on Sunday, Monday and Thursday--all days with very, very light housekeeping tasks.

What I don't do: I don't work outside my zone on a day when I am not scheduled to work there. Unless somebody dumps a whole gallon of milk on the kitchen floor, little stuff just isn't allowed to bug me any more.

I don't sweat it if I finish mopping and somebody walks over it with muddy feet. I am done. The mud can stay there, or the person who muddied it can deal with it.

I don't do deep cleaning unless I schedule it for weeks when I'm not doing school. And I only do one deep cleaning task a day.

I refuse to spend more than one hour a day cleaning house. When the boys were younger, it was two hours.

That covers it for me.

I am not doing very amazingly well with it lately, but I have a favorite blog that finally put it all together for me. I don't know if you'd like her but it is called "Like Mother Like Daughter" and you want the Reasonably Clean House section. The biggest struggle we have is everyone cleaning up dinner/kitchen after dinner each night.  It is 100% the difference but everyone is so tired and cranky we let it slide sometimes, and then everything falls apart and we need to spend a whole week deepcleaning to make up for it somehow. I don't know how that happens but it does :)

I make my kids clean 30 minutes a day right now. They each have age appropriate jobs like cat little box, bathroom wiping, organizing the shoes/cleaning the entry way, etc. Plus the general pickup work. We need another session in the morning too, maybe 10 minutes, but I haven't quite fit it in. And then we have random big cleaning days where we don't do as much school but we clean together for a few hours, sorting toys and taking care of bigger problems.

My house is never *all clean* at the same time though so you probably don't want to take advice from me :-D

I've been sorting paperwork and paying bills.

Fun.

It has been snowing all day, we've had snow more days than not since Christmas and the temperatures have mostly stayed below freezing. I'm ready for spring!

Nothing got done for school today. I have a very sick baby on my hands. I ended up getting a last minute sitter and taking him to the ER. He has pneumonia and a double ear infection. :( Waiting at the pharmacy now. Who knows when school work will pick back up or all that housework I mentioned!

I have no idea if dd got done with school today or not.  I'm just now feeling better from the flu and yesterday and today have been spent doing nothing but laundry.  Dd is powering on with her schoolwork on her own.  It isn't the way I like to do it but for a 9th grader it is doable now and then.  I have a mountain of grading to do and that will tell me how she's done.

Mrs. Robinson, praying your little one feels better soon. Agreeing with critter, don't worry about schoolwork, just concentrate on taking care of baby and keeping up your strength.

We had a pretty good day, we spent most of the morning practicing the keyboard and recorder, in the afternoon we did math, baked some banana bread and just enjoyed being together.

I'm feeling a bit guilty about dd's school. She has not had a solid week of school since before Christmas.

She has done some schoolwork but my immune system has been on a nosedive and I got acutely sick on top of the chronic stuff which of course is still there. She's quite independent but still needs some help and teaching and I haven't been able to give it to her. So she does what she can.

I'm starting to feel better. I'm on my third day of laundry to try and conquer that monster. A "normal " person could have done one huge laundry day and caught up but I don't have the stamina for that.

In addition to my illness, Ds has been sick and so I have been doing more to help him get better.

Then dd's complaints about dizziness and chest pain have been getting worse. We went to yet another doctor about it earlier this week. He ruled out a bunch of stuff but there is a tentative diagnosis of an aortic stenosis. So now we are going back to the pediatric cardiologist next week.

I see our summer slipping away! What we aren't doing now will have to be completed some time. Sigh.

You can do more when people feel better, Jean. Trying to do everything when you don't have the energy or the stamina just makes people feel worse, and the learning isn't great, anyway. Not to mention the temper tends to go south, too.

We seem to be having one of those days where a simple thing like loading a dishwasher is rocket science.
