I haven't seen any of them, but what an interesting list!

You can add "

" to the list- I haven't seen it but it looks wonderful, and it was shown at my local parish's family movie night, so I think it must be pretty safe!
Thank you!

Eta: not available to stream. This is my French film life. 😢

Oh, another good family-friendly one is Etre et Avoir.

Although it is a very good and safe documentary,

dd considered it 'BORING' as in:

'all documentaries are BORING'

it is a little slow and long winded :)

We will try 'Les Hetieres' after Christmas (or sooner when dd finally passes her French test :/ )

@ OP I have not seen any of that list.

We buy mostly dvd's at amazon.fr,  like 'Nannerl, soeur de Mozart'.

DD enjoyed that movie

I saw Marseille and maybe half of The African Doctor. As noted above, just go right ahead and scratch off Marseille. The beginning of The African Doctor is fine. It deals with racism faced by a black family in the French countryside. I can't say if anything dramatic or terribly upsetting happens but race issue is handled fairly lightly in the part I watched. I probably won't get to finish it until Sunday or Monday at least.

Do you know you can search for everything available in French on Netflix with the search engine UNOGS? Just select your country and audio "french". The categorical sorting is a little wonky, but if you have the patience to go through the list, just select all as your category.

I did NOT know that. That is immensely helpful, thank you!

What was that movie where little French kids go around giving each other bon bon magique so they don't feel sad? Started with a P and was like Poinsettia. A bit sad, but cute and safe. Older movie, 70's or 80's, so maybe someone put it on youtube or something.

Argh, my brain, can't find it!

ETA:

Ponette, I think it's Ponette! Yeah. 1996? Didn't my mom get the VHS from the library in 1996? Huh.

Based on my clearly faulty memory, I recommend Ponette.

Les grandes Grandes Vacances was really good. It handles WW2 in France in cartoon form. There is definitely fear and death and explosions at points so it is for a kid who can ponder war and loss of family but I was completely captivated. Available on US Netflix. Miniseries, in think 5 parts bit I don't remember.
