Deplin and L-Methyl Foliate

I am depressed. I also have MTHFR. Deplin helps a lot. But it's not on my insurance. I have been just paying for it. With my husband laid off, I saw there was L-Methyl Folate at the Sprouts store. Do you think it would be worth trying? It is less expensive.

there are a number of forms of mthf.   I linked to dr. lynch's page explaining the difference.  some, you do not want to take.

 

have you checked various pharmacy prices? (including out of state)  or quantity discounts?

 

I used to buy  deplin at a pharmacy in lousiana.  it was cheaper than costco. (don't think you have to be a costco member to purchase rx there.)  I'm sorry I dont' remember the name.  I had no  rx insurance at the time, and our income was tight.  I would suggest searching online for a mail order pharmacy.  or even call around to the pharmacies in your area, and find out what's the best deal for which they'll sell it to you.  I was buying three months at a time.  a big hit - but cheaper over time.

 

the only otc form  I trust is thorne - and deplin is cheaper.  I don't like deplin -but much cheaper than thorne. my naturopath has a compounding pharmacy she uses that sources their mthf at the same place as thorne, for roughly half the price.  slightly more than deplin, but works better.  I buy four months at a time.  (their discount hits at 100pills.)

along with the mthf and the depression - have you had a good work-up on your thyroid?  free t3, free t4? 

before I was properly treated for thyroid- I was dealing with side effects of a homozygous mthf mutation.   I take 5-htp.  (and a really good b-complex) big difference.
