MamaBearTeacher
Can someone explain the function of this? How does it differ from a Magnadoodle? I guess it is electronic whereas a Magnadoodle is not and that the quality is better but otherwise, can it do anything different from a Magnadoodle? Does it break easily i.e.. if it is dropped or the screen is scratched? How long does the battery last?
umsami
I obviously am not familiar with what you're talking about. In my neck of the woods, a boogie board is kind of like a mini-surfboard for bodysurfing.
Rachel
It's basically a notepad. The battery lasts a LONG time, my daughter has had hers 3-4 years. She hasn't broken it yet so I would say it's durable. What I don't like is that you can't erase one part of the screen, when you erase the whole screen erases.

Lo and behold, I just googled it and Amazon sells an electronic board called a "boogie board." Who knew?! OP - hope someone has more experience with it than Umsami and I do. LOL The cheap $10-$15 boogie boards for the beach are much better. :D

LOL The cheap $10-$15 boogie boards for the beach are much better. :D The price on Amazon is really jacked up right now. Three or four days ago I bought one on Amazon for $13.99. Now that exact same model is 39.99.

Yeah, when I saw it compared to a magna doodle I was confused.
mom2scouts
Boogie Boards were developed with state of the art liquid crystal research. They are designed to be used as a paper replacement and to feel like you're writing on paper.
Hobbes
Got one at a Costco this summer and it's been great for keeping my 2yo amused in church. I have to say I'm impressed... he is very hard on it and it's holding up fine. I wouldn't say it breaks easily at all.
Cinder
I'm considering one of these for dd. I've seen them at my local JoAnn and I think at Michaels too. And I'm pretty sure you can use a discount coupon on them--at least I didn't see it listed specifically in the fine print on the Michaels coupon and I didn't check JoAnn but they tend to be more generous with their coupons than Michaels.
kfeusse
I bought one for my son for Christmas last year. He used it for school...and just a few days ago the battery died...so for us, it only lasted a year. He was pretty sad.

Rachel
Can't the battery be replaced or recharged? The one my daughter had is older and the battery can't be replaced. Someone up thread says their battery is replaceable.
Seeking Squirrels
I've had my eye on the Magic Sketch boogie board for a while. It's about $30 + shipping from the site. It comes with extra styluses and stencils. I think it looks great for in the car, especially for road trips. I considered them for Christmas but didn't get them. Maybe I'll pass the idea on to Nana.....
Granny_Weatherwax
I purchased a Boogie Board for DGD for her birthday. She loves it. I like that she can use it to trace letters and pictures. What I don't like about it: the size and shape of the screen. It's oval and the plastic frame is fairly thick. It makes it a bit awkward when doing table work. I believe there are different models available and I'm hoping that their R&D dept. will see fit to change future versions.
